Anyone and everyone that runs a free runner give me all the advice you can.

What do you work on at home? What drills are your favorite? What is your routine before a run? Anyone go from push to free running, what is your advice to someone adjusting to a free running style. Any other tips and tricks is appreciated :)

I run a free runner and a VERY push style, usually right after one or the other lol I have to ride SUPER quiet on my free runner otherwise I just get in his way. I check him at the first a few strides away from the barrel and then I always check him at the third. I never drill him since he's finished, we work on being broke rather than any drills or pattern work. Both my free and push styles never see the pattern at home. I will set out cones and work on circles, spirals, serpentines (figure 8's), even some jumping here and there to keep things different, but never see the barrels. They're also ranched on.

Going from a push horse to a free runner does not mean your hands need to change. I'd work on rollbacks and collection off the pattern, sometimes free runners can get so into the run that they don't collect up for the turn and end up hopping, or their backs get washed out and they don't stay round. Quiet, soft hands, using your seat to really emphasize the rate points is gonna help keep them sane.
