my good open horse has been fusing for over a year now, did more radiographs to check on the process and found two big bone spurs on the "cannon bones" I believe coming off the lower joints.... one of the lower joints has almost completely fused and one is still open.... vet gave me Equinox, Pentosan, Glucosamine, and says he wants me to run her on butte and dex (never heard of running one on dex

he told me not to ride her a lot as in exercise but if I don't ride this mare she gets huge, super easy keeper gets fat easy which is probably even harder on her joints....read a study last night that says to ride them more when they're fusing, so conflicting finds.

anyone have any advice on more management and an exercise program?  How long should I wait to get all these meds in her system before I try to run her, anything else that will help better? He said surgery is not an option.

this mare is only 10 also.

I dont have experience with that specific bone spur location but seems odd to be given the ok to run but not ride. I would be getting a second opinion. What is the dex supposed to do? The others make sense. When I used equinox, I did it a solid 10 days before our big weekend. I would imagine gluclosamine takes longer.

I have no experience but I have a friend and her horse had bone spurs, she put her on silver lining herbs feet & bone and claims it made a world of difference
