Hello everyone!

I have a gelding who is getting ran HARD right now during cowboy christmas up until September. He loves liniment, loves. But he HATES poultice. No matter how we do it; Dry. Wrapped. Wet. He has just recently started to kick at me while I'm putting it on, and he has NEVER done that before. He usually pins his ears and stomps like the grouch of a king he is. It helps his legs a TON after running and working out, so it sucks that he doesn't like it, but a good liniment bath and rub down does wonders also, so it's not the end of the world..

Just plain curious if anyone else's horses have ever acted this way towards it as well? He is a grump of a king and he's super picky, with a loud personality to tell you yes or no lol. And no. It's not brand specific, I've used multiple different brands and still do to this day.

I know you said it's not brand specific, but are you just using the clay based or other varieties, like Runners Relief that aren't clay? If it's just clay ones you're using maybe try Runners Relief. Or just get some DiO and wrap with that, makes it a little more effective.

I've used both 'kinds'. Actually just used up my Dio this weekend! Ice tight, homemade clay, sore no more, DiO, a couple different off brand poultices. He hates them, almost like they made him itchy..? (no matter if you use them dry, wrapped, wet, etc).

I have had THREE very well respected performance horse vets tell me the absolute best thing you can do I use an anti inflammatory when you run ( I use equioxx / Previcox ) so inflammation never gets to the joints AND...........water water water. Rinse those legs after every run. Better than any liniment or poultice.

Both of my mares stand very well to be wrapped, apply liniment, etc, unless it's poultice! By about the 3rd application, they would be picking up their legs/dancing around a little bit. Nothing bad, really just annoying, but I quit using poultice and stick to DiO and cold hosing. I feel like those work better anyway...

My vet (who started at the track in Kentucky) says what makes poultice work is the fact that you cold hose them for 20 minutes after to get it off.  That cold hosing is what is good for legs.

Maybe try icing. I use the Hidez ice socks a lot after running & for various things at home. Something to look into. Long term it's cheaper too. I usually don't have access to 20 minutes of cold hosing after a run so it works well as a replacement
