My trail riding mare is 17 yrs old and her joints are starting  to make popping sounds and is a little off at the end of a ride.  What is a good easy to feed joint supplement that doesn't break the bank and is in pellet forum. My horses are fat and sasy on pasture and good hay so I don't feed grain.  I would like to able to get 2 more years out of her before retiring her.  

I have heard alot of imput on joint feed products, that they don't work that well & some may work , but I prefer adaquan. I know it's an injectable but it gets to the joint area faster than a feed supplement & it has been proven for many horses. 

Ditto. If you have the money I would invest in injectables.

If you really want a feed through supplement, I would recommend Acti-Flex or Fluid Action HA. I've used both of them (switched to Fluid Action due to availability) and have had really good results! It's not in a pellet form, only in a powder or liquid.

Love my Platinum CJ.  I don't believe it comes in pellets tho; I've always received the granules.  Some of their products come in bar form.   My crew will eat it out of my hand.  It's pricey, but I'm feeding 5 horses.  I give it credit for keeping Dan bucking and kicking almost to the very end (39).   

I use MVP Exceed 6Way. My 2 light riding horses do well on just one scoop vs the recommended 2 scoops, also makes it more affordable. Or if you're comfortable giving IM shots yourself, ask your vet for injectable glucosamine. Studies are now showing it works just as well as the pricier options, like Adequan. And it's $5 per shot, usually after the loading period its 2 shots per month 

I really enjoy the injectable like Adequan or Ichon. Every penny is going into their body versus spilling on the ground if you have messy eaters like mine. Then you don't have to feed grain and only have to worry about doing it every few weeks after the loading dose. 

For my arthritis mare she gets Equithrive and Adequan. 

I have published several articles on the topic of feed through joint products. Bottom line is, they do work and they don't work. If your horse has a chronic inflammation in a joint caused by too little synovial fluid present but little or no structure damage, then well formulated feed throughs may work pretty well. They do this by increasing lubrication in the joint for smoother movement, and reducing inflammation that causes swelling in the joint.

If the joint has structural damage then feed throughs are probably not going to help much. 

This is the main reason that you hear so many different opinions on feed through joint health products. When one person says a certain product works great, and another says that it does not work at all, their horses may have the same appearing lameness but caused by two different issues. Feed throughs work on one type of issue, but not on the other.

I'm intersted since I'm currently feeding plain MSM to my mare and many have told me that it works.

I feed acti-flex and some extra MSM. 

I've heard somewhere that too much MSM irritates a horse's stomach (ulcers possibly).

Usually, a scoop of MSM has 10,000 mg of MSM, and an ounce of Acti-Flex has 3,000 mg of MSM.

I really like the Absorbine Flex Max.  It's pellets.  The 60 day is $90 on horse.com

MVP 6 way is good, but it also adds a lot of other stuff and it's pricey.   I have both of mine on it, at $200/mo for both of them.  Oof. 

There's articles stating the opposite as well though. he gets about 12,000mg a day so it isn't much more than the 10,000mg dose. But I know 3,000 alone is not enough,
