| We just discovered yesterday that my daughter's little project horse has white line disease. I've never had to deal with this type of thing before. My farrier was out yesterday to trim him and discovered it..he's coming back this morning to finish and put some shoes on him. He said it really wasn't THAT bad and that this horse should be ok. I trust this farrier 100%. He's very competent and does a ton of corrective and therapeutic work for Brazos equine. He knows his stuff. So this little horse was pretty malnourished when we got him, he's picked up weight and condition, been properly dewormed, teeth done etc etc..he also lived in extremely wet and muddy conditions for a long time. Not sure exactly what caused all this either way I'm looking for some more advice on what we can do to make sure we remedy this and get those hooves healthy again. I have zero experience with this type of condition. |

| If it's not that bad, he can probably knife out the area and then treat. We use Life Data Hoof Clay in a mild case and cleans it right up. If he feels shoes are ok, it really will be. My friend had a really bad case and had to have a hoof section removed and whole wad of things. Her horse turned out fine as well. It's not as extreme for a very mild case as google makes it out to be. |

| He did get a bunch of it out.. its definitely not pretty but he's got him set for now. He gave me a bottle of some yellow stuff to keep on it. Can't remember the name of it but he says they use it a lot at the clinic for this stuff. Just need that new hoof growth to come in now and keep it clean and dry. |

| I have had great success with acne medicine that contained Benzoyle peroxide or mastitis treatment for cows. When white line first became an issue or recognized we didn't have much to treat it with and this was our go to. I still use it today. The acne medicine is great if a resection has to be done. It helps to cornify the area so you can rebuild the hoof. I had a farrier recently recommend wound kote. Our weather has white line off the charts right now. |

It was so wet where he came from.. just constantly raining and muddy it seemed.. standing in mud and yuck and I believe he'd go get in their tank a lot. Not sure if that contributed to it or not.. researching this stuff and it doesn't seem like they have much to go by as far as what really causes it to happen to some and not others. His conditions weren't ideal and his immune system was probably not the greatest along with extremely mediocre hoof care/trims.. terrible angles and just poor trimming... probably all contributing factors . So my farrier seems to think we have caught it early he didn't have to take an extreme amount off. I'm just going to follow his lead on this since he's dealt with this several times before with great success. He's in a very dry, deeply bedded with clean soft shavings big stall and is getting the best of what I can offer as far as care goes .. he is being hand walked on dry ground by my daughter daily.. with all this crazy rain she won't be riding much anyway but she takes him for walks up and down our road to get him out and moving ... he's got BOT bell boots on too and I've got him on the strongest dose of CEP hoof RX currently. So fingers crossed we will whip this before long! |

Location: Slipping down the slope of old age. Boo hoo. | The past few years have been so wet....and mud + manure is a bad thing. My farrier told me last week he had never seen so many cases of White Line in his career -- that it seemed to be everywhere this year. Last Fall we had sand brought in and built up all the areas around the barn and in the barn pens to assure we had no mud through the winter. It helped, but still my mare came up with a case on her right front. It is small at this time, but we are aggressively treating in hopes to stop it quickly. Wishing you good luck getting your horse's case cleared quickly!!! |

| Thank you! I'm a stickler for keeping feet dry and clean. When it rains a bunch I don't typically let my boys out in the mud. They stay stalled. And we hand walk up and down our driveway if it's more than a few days worth of being stalled. Sometimes no matter best efforts things just happen. I can't decide if it's contagious or not by what I've been reading... I read they couldn't "give it" to other horses in the study ... it was just isolated to the few that had it confirmed. |
