Little back story first. Purchased a mare last September who was a pleasure to be around & ride under saddle. Come late March early April she started cycling and is now almost unpredictable if anything touches her backend.

Tried Depo. Was NOT fun to give as she HATES shots. Only lasted two weeks.

She has now been on 11cc of Regumate daily for over a month. Also being given CEP No Drama in the morning.

I have set up to return her to the women I purchased her from. I took the divider out of my two horse trailer to give her plenty of space, or so I thought. Loaded her up, MAYBE made it 2 miles from my house before realizing this was a terribly unsafe idea & flipped a U turn. SOOOOO glad I did as I pulled up to my house the trailer door swung open. I couldn’t imagine if that had happened on the highway. Now my trailer is beat to sh*t and my door doesnt fully latch.

I am aware something is clearly wrong, however to be quite honest she needs a chute to have her checked which I don’t have, nor am I about to kill my vet, and clearly hauling at the moment is not an option. At this point I just want her returned. So here's the question, Is there anything I can give her to safely haul her??? Im thinking of finding someone with a longer stock trailer and just letting her be loose in it, but I would still clearly be responsible for her & damage to that person's trailer until she safely arrives.

Shots are difficult to give & to top it off she hates her mouth touched so giving something via tube is difficult as well. I do plan to call my vet, but just wanted to see if anyone on here had suggestions.

There is a tranquilizer that you can put in her feed.  Works slower this way, but is was an option.  Sounds like she certainly has problems.  Good luck to you.  I have used Dorm is feed at one point.  If you could at least get her partially sedated, it may make it easier to sedate IM and transport?

Depends how bad she is with shots versus stuff in her mouth but you could always start with squirting some ace in her mouth. That's what I've been doing with my big mare about an hour before hauling in to the vet for preg checks. Weird and I wonder what's up. There's a part of me with serious issues that wants to say "I'll come pick her up"

Have you tried giving shots in her pec muscles?  I had a mare that hated shots and that was the only way we could go IM.  If she hasn't ever been injected there you might at least get one sedation in her to get her returned.  I stood to the side at the shoulder and gave the shot.  I wouldn't try though if she strikes out or rears.  Another option I used many, many years ago was to pick up some ace tablets from the vet and put it in the horses feed.

Detomidine comes in gel form and maybe that could be put in her feed?

Good luck.

How far do you have to haul this mare? And when you brought this mare home how did she haul then?

How old is she?  Sounds like my big mare that is a head shaker.  in 2011 , she was 8 , it was like someone flipped a switch. She went from the one you could haul with anyone, anywhere in any trailer as long as it was tall enough for her (she is smidge under 17 hands).  Anyway, in March of 2011 I loaded up and headed to a race, got there and she was a sweaty mess as I pulled her out which was weird because it was cold, and the other 3 I had with me were not sweating.  Then in April I headed to a race and she hauled no problem but broke in 2 at the 3rd barrel, had literally never ever done anything like that even when I started her as a 2 year old!!! I was stunned to say the least.  May as I was loading everyone, I heard someone kick in the trailer, looked thru the slats and it was her, I yelled once and smacked her on the butt, and she was good the rest of the ride over to the arena I was going to and on the ride home....then in July I loaded everyone up and was headed out and we got down the road a wAys and she started kicking the h*ll out of the trailer, shaking and rocking the whole thing.  I pulled over and she waS wild eyed and stomping but at that point I wAs closer to where I was headed than home so I hopped in and got us there, pulled her out and she had tore the crap out of her right hock, blood everywhere, the other horses were just standing there like "get that h*ll b*tch out of here!!!" Had to take the other 3 home and have my dad come over to drive the rig home while I stood in the back with her, she put her head on my shoulder and shook the entire way home....long story short, 4 months later I had blood pulled, she was high in testosterone (vet asked if she might be bred, nope) and she got so bad about even being handled you coulnd't put a halter on her, had to put the rope around her neck to lead her out to her pasture.  Had the vet out a few months later again because her behavior kept escalating.  Checked ears, nose, mouth, etc and due to some responses he got he suggested Head Shaker Syndrome so we started treating her for those symptoms and I'd guess that hauling the vibratiion of the trailer probably also irritated her.  Once we found the right formula of herbs for her she is almost back to herself on good days, windy days are hard on her but I can ride her in wind up to around 20 MPH .  To haul her though I do give her a small dose of Ace.

Edited to add Spring is very hard on her between hormanal stuff and allergies.

Southtxponygirl - It's about an hour & 45 minute drive. This behavior only started when she started cyling her. I hauled her home, hauled her to a chiro, hauled her to a trainer. No issues. Once she started cycling she just lost it.

I mean if you like her.....you might could consider have her spayed.  Had a friend with had one that sounds similar to yours...she was downright dangerous.  Had her spayed and it was a life saver for her.
