Whats everyone's experience with Shoofly leggins or other brands?

Anyone have those on and have a pond? LOL my horses can be swimmers.

What about foals?

Don't have a pond, so can't recommend that part.  But otherwise, Shoofly's are the best thing since sliced bread.

They are worth the money. I normally get 2 years out of them. No pond here either tho LOL

This year I wanted something cheaper so I found Professional Choice fly boots on clearance at Riding Warehouse. Its only been a few days but the quality is really good but time will tell if they last as long as the Shoo flys.

  • I have a pond. Mine are in it daily rolling and splashing around. My fencing is barbed wire. They have a patch of woods. They wear the Shoofly boots from April-October and I get two years out of a pair.

Thanks! I have a friend that said she likes the professional choice but I am going to try the shoofly and see what I think! I feel so bad they stomp so much

I get one summer season out of a pair. My horse bites them off every day.

I definitely don't have a pond but LOVE the Fly Free brand. I get about 2 years out of them and they wear them beginning of March through end of September

The only brand I have found to be worth the money! No pond here, but I have one that gets in the water tank daily and I don't have any issues.

Right! The Professional Choice don't stay on as well or hold up as long. I won't even talk about the Rugged Rides.

This is my 3rd season with my SK Equine sets. As long as no major events happen through the rest of the summer to damage them, they should be fine for next year too. They look almost new, not even slouching yet or tearing at the bottom like the shooflys do

Another vote for Shoofly. Mine have held up for a few years. Also have a swimmer that likes to paw in the pond/creek. So far so good!

I've used shoofly leggins for many many years. Even the old old ones still do their job, their just not pretty to look at. This year I bought a new set and they are way different. Sagged after a week. I have at least one set that is 6-7 years old that don't sag. I've dug out all my old and tattered shooflys to go around the herd since the new ones do no good. I looked over the picture of the professional choice ones and it looks like they do have the vertical stays. I'll try those and see, but I'll stick with my ancient raggedy shooflys for now.

Don't do it! The professional choice don't wear as well. The bottom doesn't have a wide fastener so you can't adjust the size. I'm not impressed. I've had to hunt for them in the pasture.

My new shooflys had the wide attachment at the top, and no stays! I've looked at pics from many sites thinking maybe I got knockoffs, but they all show the wide attachment at the top and no stays.

They do have stays. I bought a pair this year from Chewy. Stats are still in the description.

I've used both Pro Choice and Shoofly--my expereience is that it depends on the horse which brand lasts longer.  I have two that aren't hard on them and the Pro Choice have stayed standing up much better than the Shoofly.  I think I've had to hunt for a boot once all sumer between the two of them.

I have one that is what I would call "normal".  He still has his Shoofly's bc I haven't needed to replace them yet.  I don't have to hunt for his boots often but do a few times a year.

I also have two "problem children".  The Pro Choice did not last 24hrs on one of them.  I'm talking DESTROYED and out in the pasture.  The good news is that I sent Pro Choice a pic and they immediately sent me a replacement set.  That's why both "good boys" have them now, LOL.  The other horse tore up his rear ones pretty fast but the front ones still look great.  Both of these horses make their ShooFly's look as old in a month as the other horses do in a year, but at least they are still functional.  I have to hunt for a boot from one or both of them at least once a week.

The Pro Choice were a good $15 cheaper than the ShooFly.  The Pro Choice velcro is much stronger as well.  If your horse isn't terribly hard on boots I think the Pro Choice are worth a try, especialy considering how quick they were to replace them for me.

I have used Shoofly, PC and Warriors. The Warriors have the absolute best velcro and are softer on the bottom. They all seem to last about the same but I do feel the Warrior boots are much more durable.

My (amazon) bought shoofly leggins did not have stays. I just ordered a set from Chewy and will take pics when they get here and I take the other ones off. I even double checked the label on the things because the wide attachment was only on top, and no stays. I bet I got ripped . .
