Has anyone ever dealt with it?  Not gone to get a diagnosis yet, but hubby has been sick for a week now and has all the symptoms of it.  Just wondering what (if anything) they do to treat it.  And how to keep the rest of us from getting it!

I think you are talking about Giardia?  Anyway, you can get it from drinking untreated water when camping, etc., or travelling to foreign countries (like Mexico).  Mainly, I believe they will give him an antibiotic that it is sensitive to.  I don't believe it is really common, so it could  be that his symptoms are from some other abdominal problem.  Anyway, have him see his Dr. as soon as you can and let us know....

Thanks, was in such a hurry I spelled it wrong!!  LOL

Talked to doc on phone and we have to wait another couple of days to see if it passes first.  Then we will do tests.

Hubby grabbed one of my horses smz's and gave it a try last night, and already is up and moving some, so he took another this morning.  Probably NOT the right antibiotic, but I know people who take them often, so it shouldn't hurt him any.

Actually Gardia is sensitive to Trimethroprim which is one of the antibiotics in SMZ's.  BUT he has to take the correct dose for them to work completely and isn't.

If you do not know where he may have caught it you may want to have your water tested if your on a well.  We lost a litter of pups last year to 4 micro's and Guardia was one of them.  Ended up it was our well and had to have it shocked.
