| They are amazing dogs I had one , and raised a litter out of her. They love thier family, but they are very protective.
Mine was great with my kids. They love to trail ride and can go all day long. They are very smart and stubborn. I love them we lost ours 2 years ago and a day doesnt go by I dont think about her. My husband used to travel with work and I always felt safe with her here. |

| We have two, not aggressive at all!!!! Very loyal loving dogs one is three and a half the other is 2, so perhaps aggression will come.

I know each breed can be good or bad depending on how they are raised. I've had a couple rott's that were the best dog ever. Sweet dogs, not aggressive, smart but don't threaten their family. My red dog is a couch potatoes when he is home and you never hear a word out of him, not even when company comes. I want something that will stay with me when were out on the farm. My husband is not a fan of Heelers or Australian shepherds. |

| Here is mine. She is 6 now. I would get another in a heart beat. They are VERY smart dogs. Can be agressive, but I find they are more territorial, and a dominant breed. You have to be a smart dog person. Mine very rarely does anything she gets in trouble for, but when she does, she sulks. She is her owners dog and doesnt care about anyone else.
If I am not around, you dont walk in the house, or the truck if she is there, she will let you know though. I had dominance issues with food with her for the first year, and a couple flip over and hold until she gave up fixed that.
I swear I would never have another puppy after her, headstrong.. very! But the resulting dog is something that I wish will live forever. She will not wear down on a trail ride, she doesnt bug the horses at all, she is a great hunter for any packrats, and she is the biggest cuddle bum.
I also have a pit, and she is a cuddle bum, lovey dovey dog, she is a super good dog, The Catahoula is the dominant dog and the pit wouldnt hurt a fly except the pack rats. |

I had trouble posting the picture of Vanna in the sweatshirt but now got it small enough. The male Hunter is the one sleeping on the left side of the couch. He is super laid back. Vanna is a female and more hyper but loves and craves attention. My brother just had another litter the end of August. I delivered the last one a week ago. That pup was a total different color than any of the other ones he's had. The parents are extremely hard working dogs. He lives in tough coyote country and the parents thin them out. I'll try to post pics of them "working". Rockinas has a litter mate to my 2.

Location: Missouri | My Catahoula, Ruger, is in my avatar. Best dog ever. My daughter has a half houla/half Aussie. Will never have anything else. I've had Ruger since he was 5 1/2 weeks old and he is two now. They haul to every rodeo and show with ud. Ruger sleeps in my bed and lays in my lap on the couch..all 90 pounds. Rough and tough, looks ferocious, will back it up, but a total sweetheart with me.
Catahoulas are awesome catch dogs and crazy smart. As much as I love mine, they are NOT for everyone. You absolutely have to be the alpha..always. They also are dogs that need a job..or exercise. Since they are so smart, they will try you, and you have to be willing to hold come to Jesus meetings as necessary, especially with pups.
As far as aggressive..with other male dogs ours are. With people I would say more protective. Try to come in my house or mess with me or my kids, yep it would get real ugly real quick. But, my kids always have friends around, and they LOVE the attention. Same at rodeos. Lol..never worry about my trailer being messed with though. They are pretty much don't start none, won't be none dogs.
Also agree they are one person dogs. Ruger is heartbroke if I scold him. He minds my kids, but not the same.
With the right people they are AWESOME! I'm sure there are exceptions but raise em right and demand respect and you'll have a fabulous dog (like kids..if can survive em til past PIA stage it's wonderful! ). Good luck!

I would get another in a heartbeat. I just got my first one last March and now I would love to get one in the spring again from CYA! Super loving to everyone even strangers unless someone sneaks around or surprises her then she will aggressively bark until you tell her its ok She loves other dogs too and gets along with them. She will flat chase after a coyote and she is only a pup still but she is big!! They are just way cool! But as someone stated you better be an alpha person I had to change my temperament and show her who is boss from the get go and she minds super!!! She licks the horses on the nose and loves them too!! They think she is one of them! |
