What are you feeding and doing for exercise?

Quality feed and forage is essential. So is the exercise. LONG TROT LONG TROT LONG TROT. There are some supplements that help with top line. Mostly, you want protein to help muscle development.

I have quite a few friends that are feeding the Total Equine feed and that's what they feed it for. Seems to work

We do a lot of trotting n he is on 4 pounds total a day of a 14% protein but I am slowly adding alfalfa pellets n oats w it too, he has lost a lot from his neck and withers n by his tail bone, I haven't had him long and was told he was an easy keeper but I don't think that is the case.

It isn't so much the protein that is needed  as the calories.   But Beet pulp will put a top line on one.  Also I would powerpac

4 lbs isnt alot. what feed is it?
fat and calories will help
id work him low and deep trot work as well
over his back. it will help develop the proper muscles. a strong back helps develop a great topline.. but he has to get the right calories etc..

What did the previous owner do differently than you? Duplicate that to get him back where he was. And 4lbs of what feed is important

That is exactly why I took my horse to the vet today. I thought he had EPM and that is exactly what he had. This was not his only symptom but the others were very subtle.

I'd try that Total Equine. You only feed a few pounds a day. Supposed to be a complete supplement that you add nothing else to. Only hay or pasture. The horses I see on it are looking great.

before assuming it epm.. lets look at the calories the horse is getting.. and fat %. any horse being worked or not will lose the topline if not getting enough calories
now what is the "name of the grain" so we can look at the %% and possibly help you ..
