| I usually try to check our local tack stores first because I know the owners and I like to support them. I usually end up going online if they don't have what I am looking for or if it is cheaper online. |

Location: Saskatchewan | I'm lucky as one of our local tack stores is right in the vet clinic where I work so we get everything at a low price lol and from anywhere we want pretty much. For online shopping I stick to Heritage Brand. |

Location: Midwest | I try to buy locally when possible. We have a great store locally that will stock things people ask for, and is working on catering to both pleasure people and speed people. They are slowly getting in nicer and nicer inventory. It's been a process (the gal bought the business from someone else) for the new owner, but she is doing well. If I can't find it in her store, or I need a large quantity of something, I buy online... horse.com has some good deals. It used to be called Country Supply. I also will shop Valley Vet and see which has the better price.
ETA: I have also consigned a couple saddles with her...she puts them online and deals with shipping. She can take CC's and I don't have to worry about people scamming me or dealing with shipping the thing.

Yup. Our local feed store carries halters and lead ropes, that's about it. |

These for sure...I frequent each one. Also www.valleyvet.com www.horsehealthusa.com, www.coolhorse.com and www.unitedvetequine.com
But since my introduction to the board here I am going to get a headstall for my TINY headed mare from Runnin Roan this spring (saving my money) and I have bought a Oxbow saddle pad from S.G.
Online works best for me due to price, often get free shipping, and selection.

Location: Small Town Iowa | I have two local tack stores around me and none of them carry any racing or better quality tack. Like Pro equine, or tex tan, just using them as an example. So I usually find myself buying stuff online. And some of the odds and ends, like whips or spurs I can usually find at the farm store. I guess I use both resources equally. Kinda stinks when most of the people around me with horses are primarily pleasure and trail riders. Not judging but it does make it difficult. |

My supplements, well, I just price shop to get it the cheapest. As far as tack, well, I am on quite a few FB pages that sell used tack, so I don't order much online lol |

Location: SE KS | I use Ebay.com mostly. I don't mind used stuff, although I have bought some new stuff on there. Bought 2 saddles off FB groups!! Horse.com & the local feed store!!

Location: where ever my L/Q trl is parked | I'm 40 miles from Teskey's which is larger and has more choice of products than the 2 small tack/feed stores here where I live. Unless it's something like a saddle I'm going to buy I shop on line. I find most of what I need online or catalog's will cost me the same in travel time and shipping. Plus online is just plain easier. I also buy my horse drugs and paraphernalia from Heartland Vet- they are far cheaper than my vet, who marks up his product 50 to 100%. |

No kidding on that! My closest western tack store is over an hour out.
SS and TS are my only two options. If they have what I need (say syringes or lead ropes) I will get it local. But neither of these is a local store so it's not the same as 'buying local.'
For anything high quality I go shopping online. I will usually Google the specific item I'm looking for and let it bring me options. |

Location: Deep South | I have FIVE tack stores with 10 miles of my house. And I still do nearly all of my shopping online. Just about the only thing I can think of that I buy locally is buckets (can't ship them for what you'd save). I am a bargain hunter addict and if I can save $10 on something I will order it and wait vs buying it in person and having it right then. I stalk FB groups like nobody's business, I always check Amazon and Ebay, and I use Google to compare prices on different sites.
I never buy bits brand new, I have just never not been able to find the one I need, that may be a little used, but is half the price of the same bit new.
I have recently started buying my jeans from this really awesome FB group. I'm so incredibly picky about jeans and that used to be the ONE thing I would let myself splurge on (always shopped at Buckle), just the other day I snagged a pair of what are usually $150+ jeans for $40. The exact same ones I would have bought in the store and when they got here I honestly couldn't tell the girl had worn them a single time.
If there's something you are looking for (not just horse related) I guarantee you there is a FB group to help you find it! :) |
