Location: Somewhere between raising hell and Amazing Grace | Maybe I should have just posted yesterday about a new addition instead of the way I did, but I thought I would share again today the new additions to the Robinson family. Yesterday I got three red footed tortoises from a young expecting mother. This morning she texted me and asked if I would also take her Golden Greek tortoise, which of course I did. Just thought I would share photos of them! That now makes nine tortoises. Four red foots, one yellow foot, two golden greeks, and two sulcatas. I told hubby I would behave and not get anymore.....for a while....(I told him Dino was left out being the only yellow foot so that's a good excuse to get another one....someday....)

Location: Red Raiderland | These turtles absolutely intrigue me. How do the ones in the first pic get into the food dish? It seems like they would get high-centered. No? |

They actually don't eat lettuce. They will, but it has no nutritional value. Their primary diet is collard, mustard, and turnip greens. They will also get kale, cucumbers, pumpkin, dandelions, weeds (yes they like crab grass and other weeds). We do give them some fruit from time to time, but not too much. Sugar isn't good for them. They get watermelon, honey dew melon, bananas, tomatoes, grapes, and apples.
I keep pelleted food in their habitats but they don't eat it often. I have a Mazuri food (resembles dog food) that they love but only get about once a week.
It's not as expensive as you would think, at least for as many as I have. Greens cost me around 20 bucks a week. Apples are free (ton of apple trees in the yard), and fruit about 15 a month. |

Location: NE Texas | That is so cool! I love seeing your tortoise pics and I kind of want one! My hubby would kill me.....with 5 dogs in the house, i'm pretty sure that's enough. But I REALLY like Moses and think I might could sneak maybe a small tortoise in without him finding out....immediately. What do they eat? And what type of daily care do they require?
