I have an 06 Chevy 2500 ext. cab diesel I wanted to trade in on a smaller suv because I don't haul a lot anymore and the suicide door suck for getting my son in and out of his car seat. They had an 04 Neason Extera at the chevy dealer. They want 9300 for it but they would only give me 6100 for my Chevy......they said it was because it had high miles....it only has 233000 miles on it.

My 02 duramax has 149000 miles. I would consider that an 06 with over 200k high, I had an 06 dodge and sold it a few years ago once it hit 100,000, I think its at about 140,000 now and I drove that truck half way across the country multiple times.

We have a Chevy Duramax '07 that only has 96K miles.  I think yours has a lot considering that it is an '06 but maybe I am way off.

For a Chevy I would say that is a lot of miles!

I have an '01 and it has 280,000 on it. I would think that's a lot for an '06 IMO.

I have a 2003 6 speed Dodge dully with lighter rear end and 2WD. It only has 135,000 and I consider that broke in:). Sometimes the Diesel engines of many makings simply outlast all of the other stuff. Especially the electrical items and simple stuff. The reason I consider it practically new is because we bought it new and have taken care of it.
Have a '95 Dodge dully we also bought new that only has 185,000 on it. Love that truck. Paint looks horrible, but still pulls like it's new. Have gotten many offers, but will never sell.
I'm sure Chevys and Fords are great too, but I drive trucks until they absolutely fall apart and have no experience with other diesels. I don't go on long trips so I don't have to be too cautious.

I bought a '94 Dodge diesel when I was just out of college, it had 173,000 on it when I bought it.  I still have it, in fact my husband does excavating and he pulls his equipment around with it.   It's now got 450,000+ miles on it.  It's been a great outfit.

I've also got a 2008 Dodge diesel here that has got 104,000 on it.  It's also been really good.

Go on Kelley Blue book & see what the trade in value is on it and what the retail is on it. That sounds about right though. The truck is over what some around here would say is half life

I would say that's a fair trade in value.  You may be better off selling it privately.  Can you finance a new vehicle without trading something in?

I think it's high miles, but what is more important to me is the care of the vehicle during that time.

I have a 2007 chevy cobalt with 355,000 miles on it and still going strong.  I bought my 2001 Dodge Diesel with 168k miles and am finally at 200k.  We don't haul with it, it's the farm truck now.  They are both paid off so not going anywhere with either.

Are you dead set on an SUV?  Check your fuel mileage.  That Extera may not get great mileage, but I have no idea.  If I was going to trade a vehicle in, it has to be for something that will be better either financially or mileage.

Take that information with you when you inquire about trading it in.  If they know that you have done your homework they may be more willing to help you out without trying to low ball you.

I wanted something that could still pull my trailer if I got a chance to haul some this year.

I've got a 02' Dodge 3/4 ton with over 560,000 miles.. still runs great (does have a oil leak I need to address) my mechanic told me dont sell it unless he dies! Which he better not!! I was looking at buying another Dodge and they wanted way too much for trucks with half as many miles on it.. And at least I know what has been repaired or replaced on it!

The 2001 duramax I used to drive had 425,000 mile on it and is still going strong. My 06 has 150,000.

233,000 might be a little high but if it has been maintained it wouldn't scare me a bit.

I had been looking for a 03 dodge because they came with a 4 door cab. But used diesels are so high you cannot touch any year around here for under 14k

Yeah I've seen '95, '96, and '97 Dodges here on used lots. They have a price from $10,000 to $15,000 and are gone the next day! None of the used diesel trucks are on the lots too long.

9300 for an 04 xterra is high too...its basically 10 years old and xterras are notorious for bad gas mileage..my cousin has one and she is getting rid of it ...get on nada.com and research used car prices..you can look up yours and the ones you are interested in..nada is more accurate then blue book because it is updated more often and its also geographically based....
