In 12 years I've replaced ours once. I check to make sure both are working and I change the batteries Jan. 1st every year.

Yikes! Me either. Ours are built in to the motorhome and the lights are always green. It was the same way in the LQ's trailer. Besides pushing the "test" button and making sure they work, is there anything else you have to do with them?
