| So, I was interested in a horse for sale on craigslist.org. I've been looking for a well bred prospect for months. Older then 5 and younger then 10. The horse was used as an all around horse, dressage, a little jumping, and trail riding. He is 14 and little older then what I was looking for but is a grandson of Dash for Cash and Special Elan and a Great Grandson of Beduino. They were only asking $875. I had been trying for 2 weeks to set up a time to come see him. The owner usually took 12 to 48 hours to get back to me and never really set up a decent time to see him. So I got off work around noon Wednesday and contacted her, she informed me she would be working in the evening and asked if Thursday or Friday would work. I said no to Thursday since it was Thanksgiving but agreed for Friday. I contacted her on Friday and she told me the horse had sold Wednesday…..okay grrrr I said I could come Wednesday. But then I look on Craigslist again on Saturday and there he is for sale for $3500 by the new owner! Buying and selling horses has been very frustrating lately.Does flipping of horses such as this bother anyone else? I'm not mad just bummed out I guess. Never worked with the Dash for Cash line and was looking forward to it. Maybe I'm just extra irritable this week…. |

Totally too good to be true, if this horse was sound and sane. You know what they say about "too good to be true"...if it sounds that way, it probably isn't actually true. There are sellers in my area that will post horses on craigslist and will not get back to you or let you have a chance to come look at them if you sound like someone who knows what you're doing. Also, often times the first ad is just to get somebody baited and then the second ad is to get someone to rush to buy him before it's too late again. |

| Well it might be too good to be true. I only look on craigslist for project horses. Although, I have sold my horses through craigslist and have had success. Guess I didn't think about it being a "bait" add. lol |

Location: Texas | my craigslist horse selling experience ended very quickly after someone, who HAD to be a teenager, offered me 4500 sock monkeys for my colt. it started like this:
I listed him for 4500. said NOWHERE on the ad about negotiating on a price. I get an email saying they will pay $750 and pick him up tomorrow.
I thought this was a joke- so I emailed back and said yeah right, not happening. They email back- my final offer is $1000 and I can pick him up in the morning.
I again think a friend of mine is messing with me, so still thinking this is fake told them absolutely not, not happening, he's $4500 not $1000.
They email me AGAIN and say- What if I pay you half now, and in a few years if he ends up being anything I will pay you the rest. I said- YEAH RIGHT.
They email again and said, well what if I pay him off with his winnings. (this is a WEANLING here.) At this point I am thinking this isn't a joke anymore. I told them absolutely no trades, no negotiating, no payments, no nothing.
I didn't hear anything for a while and thought they got the picture. then I got one more email that said- this may be a long shot, but I make custom sock monkeys as a hobby, and I was wondering if you would be interested in any. I would give you 4500 of them and even if you sold them for $1 a piece you'd more than make your money on the colt!
At that point. I didn't reply. LOL. |

Oh WOW. I've had 15 year olds ask if they can make payments, and someone trying to eat my horse for sale.....but never offering a trade for homemade sock monkeys. |

| Oh my. I wouldn't completely stay away from Craigslist. You just never know. I had a super nice, anyone could ride, Doc O'Lena mare solid 4D horse (part of my reason for selling) - not spooky, you could haul her anywhere, a dream to ride out. I had her listed for $4,000 on several horse sites that I know people look at. I never got so much as a tire kicker. This was a super nice mare. Finally put her on Craigslist and she sold for my asking price within a week. She is a trail horse and her new owners love her to pieces and she has a great home. So it can work.
OP - sorry for your experience. |

They can ask $3500.00 or $35,000.00-getting it is a whole new ball game. I see people buy one at a sale then immediately list it on BHW for over twice what they gave for it. |

Location: Tx | I also wouldnt ever rule out CL. I sold a dang good gelding that I used as my college back up horse on there. He and I were having some problems and we wernt clicking anymore and I listed him for half what I paid for him 2 years earlier, thinking because of his age (17) and that he didnt have a long list of accomplishments with me that I wouldnt even get that for him and a 10 year old girl meet me twice at barrel races and had times falling a second to a second and a half off of my good mare.
Her daddy left the second race with that gelding in tow and since then they have won a couple saddles, quite a few buckles and lots of other awards. She loves that horse to death!!!....I guess he just hated me
