Is it possible to buy a weanling and then resale as a 2 or 3 yr old to make a little side money?

Possible, yes, but not likely. You have to pay for their upkeep for 2-3 years and then the expense of training
(whether you pay someone or do it yourself
). Even if you try to sell it unbroke, you may not get much of a return at all.

Not likely, you could buy a long 2yr old now, ride over the winter, and sell in the spring and maybe make some. I think the key to making $ this way to have them 6 mos max. And that's not guaranteed.
Example, 2013 Fulton Performance Horse Sale Results
ASOF weanlings $12,000
ASOF 3 & 4 year olds $14,500
I haven't seen them, but I bet those 3&4 yr olds have a nice handle on them. And you spend a heckuva lot more than $2500 in those 2-3 years keepin' em.

I think reSELLING a weanling after having it a while is the easiest kind to make money on! Provided they have excellent bloodlines and are very correct and good looking. A unknown, homely or plain horse will not be a good risk........good luck

Thanks for all of the advice. There is a Famous Bugs colt out of Whisper of Magnolia for sale. I thought about trying to pin hook like they do with TBs. I guess I will stick with my two jobs a little bit more.
