Saw this video on Facebook of Ryan Lovendahl riding a 5 yr old Stingray. I was surprised because I had always thought Sherry did all the training on her and really made her what she is. Kinda bummed me out not gunna lie. Obviously she did a lot of making her what she is but not as much as I had thought.

Yes he trained Stingray and Movin. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Ryan has train several for Sherry

Sherry has always credited the others who are involved in the development of her horses. It truly baffles me why some people find it disappointing when someone doesn't make a horse completely from scratch.

I just was always under the impression that she had which I think is awesome..nothing against those who do not I think you still have to be a dang hand to jockey to do what those girls do. It surprised me since I did not know that.

ETA: She still is my favorite and my pick to win the world!

you have to think there's only so much they can do with young horses when they are on the rodeo trail.

Just because they are rodeoing on them doesn't mean they are just running them, and that everything else was done by someone else. You can bet they are KEEPING them working. It is *so* much more than running them. These horses are by no means done when people like Ryan hand them over.

Oh I totally agree, she had to obviously put the time and miles in seasoning her, and like I said still my pick for the world! Just was a little stinger to me cause I had always thought she had done it all on her. I totally agree though with their schedule it's got to be hard to be at the top of the world and still have the time to put into all the training of a youngster.

In her bio she tells of Ryan riding her........with her rodeo schedule it is hard to run for the NFR and get one ready.......she likes his style and it seems to work for her......One thing for sure........she rides her.....and very well......

Randy Rist trained Movin. There's a video on her on YouTube with both Randy and my mom riding her before she was sold and Ryan started running her.

It has been well known that Ryan starts some horses for Sherry.  Stingray is the first she has hauled that is Potter bred and raised.  When they started Stingray I don't think Sherry was sure she would evan rodeo again.  Or at least haul hard.  Mike died in 2001.  After NFR that year she didn't enter for over a year.

I truly don't think a lot of people saw what Mike's death did to Sherry.

At the end of the day no matter who it is how are they suppose to haul all year, with all that goes with that and start young ones.  I don't care who has a gold buckle there have been others on those horses at some point.  Some admit it.  Others not so much.  I admire the ones who thank everyone and admit they get some help along the way.

Watching Mary and Sherry ride tells a lot about how many hours they spend in a saddle.  And on a lot of differant horses.  I appreciate their ability to throw a leg over and go.  They both look very comfortable and confident on a number of horses.

Yeah I am a fan of Sherry's.  The first memorial teamroping for Mike I saw a shy, heartbroken, terrified young lady.  The pain on her face was so obvious.  She just went through the motions.  To see her love of horses take her through that pain to where she is now is a wonderful thing.

Thanks Karen.  I watched the youtube video someone posted a link to.  I had never seen her talk about losing her husband until then.  You really got a sense of how difficult coming back to rodeo was for her.

me too.

I agree, Lauren and I use the same trainer who is one of the best hands in Texas, an NFR qualifier and has made many top 1D horses that are running in the circuits all over the country.  Her daughter rides also and even though she has the ability to make a true 1D horse, if a finished one comes their way that fits her daughter they don't hesitate to buy it.   It doesn't enter the eqation "who made"  the horse.

Thought that was pretty well known that Ryan ran Stingray after being started by Wendy. The latest BHN had articles on all the horses and who trained them, where they came from, etc.

on the video of Ryan riding Stingray - I noticed that Sting doesn't have the large tan/brown spot on her left front shoulder yet.   Sherry stated in her video that spot was permanent not a muddy spot.  To me Stingray is a chocolate palomino.   I met Sherry and Stingray here at my place in S'ville 2 years ago- I was surprise to realize Stingray was so small- but so well tuned and muscled up.
