What kind of tie down is that she's using on her horse? What's it called? How's it work?

Thank-you!!!

I hope the first round jitters are over and she kicks hiney from here on out.  She's following in some awful big boots behind her hubby.  She mentioned in an interview her horse gets faster with each run.

I can't wait for her to get that first barrel down.  Her time was pretty quick and solid considering her first barrel wasn't as smooth & tight as I am sure she would like.  I think she will make some smoking runs when she gets that first barrel.

Her reins look way too long for her "hands".

Obviously she has a good horse and can ride but for the field she is up against I don't see her being super competitive this week

Anybody know why she rides with such long reins? Seems like too much - but obviously works for her

Ahhh - - - the view from the cheap seats! We should all be so fortunate to "not be as competitive" and still be at the NFR. She was not invited. She qualified. Go Shada! You've earned it!

Bonnets help to keep them flexed at the poll but let them stretch nose out to run. Some horses won't run "through" a tie down on their nose, but will run "through" a bonnet but still listen to the bit.

To be more clear. Some horses can keep their noses collected and still run through a bit, some horses just need to flex at the poll to give to the bit. It's a feel thing. Just because your horse's nose is in-between it's knees doesn't mean he's listening. Some horses won't run unless they can lead with their nose. Cow bred horses are a lot like that in my opinion. I let a colt lead with their nose unless they start taking the bit then I try a martingale, if that doesn't work I try a bonnet or tie down depending on what I feel after I put them on. (disclaimer - My colts are broke and give at slow speeds before this is applied. It's not a fix it, just a helper at fast speeds. Something to brace their own power against.)

I saw a clip on one of the pre shows that was after the 1st round, it was of Shada and Trevor getting in a SUV to leave. Thier conversation was so funny. She said something about her horse going to wide, and his comeback was priceless.. He said, "Thats why we ride horses, so we can have something to blame stuff on, imagine what it would be like if we had to take responsibility for our own mistakes"  Thats not the exact quote, but it is close.

I wonder if a bonnet would help my mare....she will flip over on me if I put a tiedown on her.......but she has a horrible issue with popping her head up when I want her to stop.

Can someone tell me who trained dial it ? I heard the announcer say that he was purchased as a head horse prospect and that Britney pozzi had done some barrel work on him .... Did shada train and finish him on barrels or was he already a proven barrel horse when they got him ?

You're right! I agree!! I did say in my post that it obviously works for her. I was just asking why people, regardless of caliber of horse/rider, would benefit from such long reins. I was intending on learning something from the question I posed, not for someone to state the obvious that she made it to the NFR with those long reins. I know she made it to the NFR. I guess my question so that it isn't taken so personal should be, what are some reasons people ride with long reins? In my experience, you have less control of the horse with long reins. That's all.

I wasn't being a smarty pants I was just stating the obvious.  For some long reins keep them out of their horses way so they arent pulling on their heads.
