| With all this talk of the NFR it had me wondering how many barrel racers out there actually have the NFR as one of their goals. So you can tell me all about your NFR game plan. Do any of you have a horse that you think could be NFR Material? If you do, please share a picture. :) My goal is to make the NFR by 2017 or 2018. My game plan is save every bit of money I get to pay for entry fees, diesel, feed, vet bills, and unexpected expenses. Then I'm just going to go to as many pro rodeos I can and hope for the best. I honestly think one of the horses I'm training could make it to the NFR. I can't wait to read everyone's responses.

 Go For It!
Location: Texas | I would LOVE to qualify for the finals! I just don't want to do all that traveling! Maybe I'll go for the Tx Circuit Finals so I can stay close to home. Either way... It's an awful lot of work. |

I'm with you. I want to do a few futurities and then I will go from there. Ideally what I'd like to do is see my HORSE go to the NFR, but I would prefer to stay at the office. LOL...however, I am in the unique position where I'm sure that if my horse was that good, (And me after the futurities) that I could be on the road and come back to my job whenever I wanted or get an NFR qualifier to ride my horse for me because of the work I am in. But I dunno...I hate all that traveling. |

| I didn't vote, I don't want to go to the US and rodeo, I have no desire to leave my family that long. I do however want to qualify for Edmonton and Calgary :-) |

Location: Kansas | I'd love to try for it, just not sure if I'll ever have the financial backing to give it a shot. If I can get things lined out with Clifford this winter and get Chance back at the top of his game, I might dive in and buy my permit next year. Chance likes the rodeos better than jackpots and I think he'd eat the Prairie Circuit arenas up, but I know its not worth trying the pro shows if I don't have two at that level. Odds are making circuit finals is a better long term goal for me unless I find a money tree somewhere or stumble onto another horse with loads of talent, but its fun to dream about the NFR when you think you have a horse with that type of talent. Maybe someday....... |

Location: Texas | I didn't vote. I would love to go to the NFR, but it isn't a realistic goal for me. Money, time, family... never gonna happen. It would be awesome though! lol |

| Honestly, I've never been a rodeo person. I like horse shows (or at least I used to until the pleasure people screwed up the pleasure horses IMO) and barrel races, jackpots. |

Location: MD | It has always been a dream of mine to back a girl on her NFR bid. I've got a few nice enough horses in the barn and maybe a couple more in the making. I'm thinking that maybe I've found a jockey. We'll be running here in our circuit this year and see how things go... |

Location: Minnesota | Yes it is in my goals! I plan on going for circuit finals for a few years first and then after that giving it a shot. Obviously there will be a lot of planning involved in insuring that the funds are there.. But I have the most supportive husband in the world (he is a bullrider and bullfighter) so he is willing to do whatever it takes to see me accomplish my dreams and goals.. It may not ever happen for me, but I want to at least give it a go at some point in my life! |

Location: Kansas | I have had that goal for a long time, just do not know if it will happen financially or not. I had set the goal to be by the time I am 50 I will be there. That gives me time to get my daughter and son out of college or mostly anyway and try. Well I remarried and now have a 2 1/2 year old so I have pushed back my age limit. LOL Haven't totally given up the thought yet but will see with time. |

Location: Idaho | I wouldn't say it is a goal of mine but given an opportunity I wouldn't say no! :) I am making my own horses. It is a priority to me to run a horse I made. I would rather never make it than make it on a horse I don't own or didnt have part of their early years. Making our circuit finals is my main goal. Making my own horse is a process, I wouldn't consider myself a trainer, so I know that it will take a long time and several horses to find that magic cross. Maybe it will never happen but Im going to keep trying because I truely enjoy the process. :) if nothing else, I will have lots of horses around for my daughter to choose from when she is ready to step up :) |

| I voted yes, but I am not going to revolve my life around it. However, if I get a horse that I think is good enough I am dang sure going to try! |

Location: North Dakota -> Colorado | I voted yes, if I currently have the talent to do it or if in the future I have the talent to do it I will certainly try to make a go at it. I would love to qualify to the NFR my rookie year so I don't plan on buying a permit until I know I have to horse to take down the road. |

Location: Montana | I voted "I don't know yet" because I don't! At one point I thought I would, but some goals in my life have changed, and I think I would rather attend the NFR than compete in it. Barrel racing, to me, is for fun, and if I win a check, that is great too! |

I keep wondering when you are going to get your permit. I think you'll do well at the circuit rodeos. You have done a great job training your horses to get you there.
I don't have NFR dreams, mostly because I am 3D/4D, but also because I wouldn't like to travel like that. I had a lot of fun rodeoing in high school and college, but now I like the jackpot environment better. |
