My brain quit working .  I may have had a stroke.  I'm working on a resume and cover letter.  I need to address the letter to someone but don't know the name.  Would you do Sir or Madam?  That sounds dorky?  help a girl out

^^^ Definitely this...that is how I do it. Never wrote a resume, though, just business letters.

I work for the recruiting department at my work.... these types of letters always get jumbled around.

Call the company and get the name of the recruiter for the position, or the manager of human resources and direct it to them.

This! That's what I was instructed to do in my college English class that was a prep class for job searching.
If there isn't any instruction on who to send it to on the company website, then you should address the human resources department. At least that's what I was taught!

This is for a very small company.  I've been to this place a couple times and there's only 3 or 4 gals in this office.  They're just looking for a part time pee on to do odds and ends.  So now what is your opinion on this?

Still address it "To whom it may concern"    This encompasses anyone who comes into contact with the letter.
