I dont want to stir anything up but I have been rodeoing for 15 years and I have made the southeastern circuit finals 4x and the texas circuit finals 1x..so its not like i dont know what pro rodeo entails...thought it was kind of an interesting show and not something you see on tv ever. Location: SE Louisiana | I find rodeo people to be pretty much down to earth folks. They deal with a strange animal called a 'Horse' on a daily basis.
Now.... for those that don't know, Horses are an inherently dangerous animal.. I've said it before.. Superman fell off a Horse and died. How much more dangerous can you get?
I've not seen this new show yet, but if it is done with any class at all... It will show how much True Grit you folks have.

Lol... It's funny you say that because for some reason I just can't hate her.. Sure she has all of the money in the world and is trying to buy her way to the top... But lets be real: if I had that kind of money I'd sure buy me an expensive horse---and truck and rig to go along with it! I'd like to see her excel and really learn to ride that horse throughout the rest of the series. |

Not all rodeo folks live saintly lives, many are young and like to rip it up at times, but if you are willing to have cameras follow you around and record all the drama, either real or made up, then get ready for what comes your way. |

Β Haha. You speak truth. We know it goes on, we just don't want the whole world to know it goes on. I was a bad one to party at one point, which is why my mom hauled with me to college rodeos and was not shy about knocking on trailers looking for me and dragging me out by my hair in front of everybody. LMAO. All the guys were terrified of her. |

| I haven't seen Rodeo Girls, I don't have satellite. I will say that the previews on youtube were NOT flattering, nor has any of the writings about it by the people that actually produced it.
As to the partying part....I'm not sure there were too many that could hang with me and my group in college and live the whole weekend at Chadron or Fort Collins or Torrington at the rodeo. My poor parents Needless to say I was more party than I was actually competitive and my 'sponsorship' dried up REAL quick! Ha ha..
I think they've taken a real serious look at the dramatic, catty bs that the rodeo community is capable of, and left the boring fuddy duddies that win the rodeo asleep in their trailer...alone. With today's entertainment hungry population that craves all varieties of the The Hills, or Snookie what's her face, a docudrama about women that feel sort of old, tired, dirty, and cranky wouldn't sell. (I qualify amongst the old, tired, dirty, and cranky, if not perhaps the fuddy duddy that won the rodeo ha ha!) I wouldn't want to watch me sit with my head in my lap and wonder "Why the hell am I here?" and "If I go to sleep now, I can get 6.3 hours of unconsciousness."
All in all, I didn't really have too much of an opinion either way, because I know very well that there are women that act like that on the circuit. I also know that there are just as many (or fewer?) that don't act that way. I also know who wins races 9 times out of 10, so it really didn't bother me too much. True competitors have a knack of making up their own mind about things, unflattering TV show about our sport or not.
I think the saying is, "Any publicity is good publicity." I'm usually AMAZED at how many people don't have a clue what barrel racing even is! If it takes a few catty, over made up women with WAY too much money to create some interest in rodeo, then so be it. If we can get more people tuning in to the NFR in hopes of spotting drama, maybe we can win and keep even more fans once they find out there is more to it than a few snarky women.

I wonder how much time the top 15 from the NFR have to party throughout the year trying to make the finals. I know they do, but to what extent and how often. I am guessing the folks without horses in their constant care have more time to cut loose than those who are taking care of horses regularly. |

At yesterdays buckle ceremony they had whichever one of the Wright twins won that day... he was telling a story and he said - "when I went to bed this morning" OMG I died laughing. Those twins would be a hoot to hang out with. |

I told someone this over a PM but I'll say it on here...I have never heard anyone say anything bad about Darcy in real life. Most people around here don't even really talk crap about her for buying expensive horses that she can't ride very well, I think because she's usually really nice to everyone so a lot of people like her. I remember when she bought Dash and we all talked about how much she spent on him ($200k was NOT the number that was going around, I'm almost positive that was just for TV) but no one said anything bad about her buying him. I've never had a full conversation with her but I used to take lessons with Viki (the lady that owns Rocky Top, you'll see the decal on Darcy's trailer) and Viki is very good friends with Darcy. And like I told the person in the PM, Viki is one of the nicest, most genuine people you will ever meet and I can't imagine her being friends with Darcy if she was fake or stuck up.
Darcy has wanted to do a show like this for a LONG time, there's been rumors about her trying to get this going for several years. I'm actually really surprised she made it happen, and not only that but that it made it onto A&E.

I think when you're trying to make the NFR you probably don't have AS much time to party but I know it still happens. However, not everyone that rodeos, even in the PRCA, is trying to make the NFR. I know a lot of people, especially around here, that just want to make the circuit finals, or that mainly do NPRA and then just do the local PRCA rodeos. Those people still party.
Also I'm not gonna name any names but my friends and I HAVE partied with people from the top 15 at local pro rodeos...so it does happen haha. |

Location: ND | just from 2 episodes i think darcy does just fine and keeps up with the rest of them but that is just what we get to see.....she also seems like the most real of the bunch......and maybe barb.....the rest are just kind of a joke in my opinion....but i suppose that comes with age....oh to be young and naive and run around on the road with daddy's money or barely scraping by with minimal repsonsibilities and commitments except getting to the next place.......
I think Darcy would actually be a pretty interesting gal to visit with......
but i'm most curious about how much these folks got paid for just six episodes and being filmed for how many months????? |
