| Soo my horses just seem to hate me lol no matter how good I do for them they don't appreciate it!! I have a really hard keeper that's just driving me nuts .. I bought her 3 months ago, she was pretty thin .. Not horrible but ribby and lack of muscle and topline . I put her on ultium for a couple months and she gained but still ribby & sucked up looking.. Still needs weight for sure.. So I put her on triple crown senior bc it's such a good feed & I hear so good about it .. So my 17 yr old loves the stuff but the 6 yr old doesn't seem to really like it :/ she takes forever to eat it bc she'll take a bite and look around and then won't take another bite for 5 mins! Then she'll eat hay or beet pulp instead .. She used to never leave the ultium .. She eats it but I don't think she likes it.. So do I just keep her on it anyways or try something else ? I'm about out of feed ideas.. Unless I just go back to ultium but i know alot of people don't like purina .. I am currently feeding her 9 lb of TC senior , 5 lbs beet pulp and unlimited grass hay.. Although she's not a big hay eater at all.. I also have her on u gard pellets . So what would you guys do if she was yours !? Any other options ? She seemed to love the ultium :/ I just don't get why she doesn't like the TC .. Looks and smells great to me! My other mare sure does love it.. Sorry for the long post .. I'm just about at my wits end |

| You might do a Panacur Power Pack or the one by Safeguard and go back to the Ultium if it puts weight on her. I would also add 2 ounces of Aloe Vera juice twice a day. Good luck. |

| Thanks guys! I'm not sure she has ulcers .. Can't say for sure I guess but I would think I'd see symptoms & she doesn't really follow any . She loves her feed when she was on the ultium, never left it had couldn't wait to get it .. Now not so much. I only have her on u gard pellets bc I sold the horse that was getting them so I thought I'd put her on them until they are gone . I may try the panacur power pac though . Any other feed solutions ? I hate supplements . I'd rather just have it all in the feed. These hard keepers are expensive !! |

| Be sure there are no worms.
Get teeth worked on/checked.
check or treat for ulcers.
Use probiotics.
I usually have 1 or 2 hard keepers and those are the things that work the best. |

| Adm Sr Glo and Healthy Glo. Alfalfa flake once a day and coastal Bermuda 1 flakes a day. You might try aloe Vera juice 1ounce morning and night. I also feed AE performance detox. |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | She isn't hungry. Cut the senior to 5 and the beet pulp to 3.. If she is getting 9 senior and 5 beet pulp in one feeding your horse is not hungry. If it's 2 feedings she's still not hungry so cut her back and see if she nit piks at her grain or cleans it up. If she cleans it up stay on it , if not go back to ultium. |

Location: Florida.. | 6 lbs a day of sr is plenty.. if she wouldnt hold her weight on that then increase it..start less then go up if needed.. so id cut it back as well as beet pulp.. ultuim you didnt feed as much as you are now so she may be full.. beet pulp is filling.. i know if you cant keep wieght on then move up with lbs but start low.

| Ok, so would it be best to cut the amount of each back or just cut the beet pulp out & keep the amount of senior she's on now ? |

Location: Florida.. | id cut both. .. she gets hay so 6 lbs is enough to get all her nutrients.. try 6lbs a day and cut BP to 3 lbs a day.. and see how she is in 30 days. a horses stomach can really only handle 5 -6 lbs per feeding .. of anything mixed..Id soak beet pulp then add the proper amount to her grain and mix it up really good. instance.. a 3 qt scoop of tc sr.. and a half scoop of soaked bp.. mix..it up and feed.

Location: Georgia | I would suggest eliminating some possibilities first before dumping a bunch of money in different feeds and supplements. I would first have a vet check the teeth, worms.. maybe power pac and definetly a good possibility she has ulcers. Horses dont have to have the classic symptoms to have ulcers. Then come up with a good nutrition plan. I would add the fat without alot of grain. A good forage is an absolute must. And good turnout. |

Location: Texas | I've had several fill out extremely well on Safe Choice Senior when Equine Senior didn't put weight on them. Safe Choice Senior already has prebiotics, probiotics, rice bran, flax seed, and beet pulp. I will deworm hard keepers with Quest about once a year due to worms not being as resistant to this. |

| Ok guys .. So I cut her food back .. She's been eating the TC a little better but still isn't crazy about it .. She started eating her hay over it this morning.. She was never like this on the ultium .. So now what ? I liked how the TC feeds have all the nice digestive aids in it.. But of course she doesn't like it.. She was like this with the purina senior also .. Soo I'm not sure what it is about senior feeds ? Does TC have any feed she may like better & gain weight on ? Or I can just keep her on the senior too .. She eats it , I just don't think she cares for it. Anyways .. Feel free to leave opinions :) I know I've been a pain with the feed threads! |
