Coming from Fl. Looking at mid spring-mid-summer time frame.  So, for those of you that have been, which is the better place to go when you've only got a week, and you want the most for your money? Would it even be feasable to do both in a week?

Grand Canyon is about a day or two activity.  It is probably a 12 hour drive from one to the other.  Yellowstone has more to see but in a week time you could certainly do both.

Mapquest says 14.5.  But you have to pass thru Utah to get to the other one.  And Utah has a ton of really cool parks to visit along the way!

Yosemite! LOL

sorry, I couldn't resist. I went and LOVED it. We stayed in a vacation home rental in Yosemite West. Plenty of hiking and in a week you don't come close to seeing it all.

I've been to Yellowstone and LOVED it. But if you go, don't stay in your vehicle and just see it from the road, you will miss so much of it that way. Get out and hike to waterfalls, rivers, etc, you can even camp or stay in the rustic lodge if you like that kind of thing. you can see it by horse back, too!

Someone who is a hunting guide out there told us while we were there that a city slicker lady was hiking down the trail as he and his group were packing in on horses and she stopped them and said "Excuse me, do you know what time they let the grizzlies out?" He just said "Oh, usually around 5 o clock" She then went trotting down the trail to set her camera up and wait. Swear to God, that's what he told me!!!! And he wasn't kidding.

I would say Yellowstone.  You can hit Yellowstone for a couple of days, go visit Jackson Hole for a couple of days and they will have their rodeos up and going by then every Wednsday and Saturday and then you could hit Cody for a few nights, they have a great museum and they have their rodeo every night.

I've been to both, both are amazing!! I'd say you can def spend more time in Yellow Stone, if you go to the Grand Canyon, I'd recommend going to the Hoover Dam, The Four Corners and Vegas... all are fairly close and VERY VERY COOL!! Either place you go you'll LOVE it, I'd do one of the other so you can spend a fair amount of time and not be rushed.

I would do one or the other, otherwise you wont be able to get your fill of either.  Having done both Yellowstone is the one I really want to go back to. We spent 7 days going through it and still didnt get our fill of the place.

Thanks for the replies so far!  So, for Yellowstone, is is better to go around May/June?  I don't get snow where i live and i'd rather go when there isn't much/any there either!

I would go around mid June to give the snow a chance to melt.  We drove through Yellowstone from Jackson this year over Memorial weekend and there was still quit a bit of snow in the park.

Done Grand Canyon did helicopter down then boat and helicopter back up it was amazing cost was 300/person for the entire tour.

There also is Zion park in Utah, angles landing is somewhere I want to go, but it is a 4 mile hike to the top and I do not have physically active friends that want to do it with me

I love both parks but I feel there is more to see at Yellowstone and would choose it for a longer stay.

I have done both....Yellowstone 3 times and want to go back again.  If  you have about 5 days go to YS and then Grand tetons which is pretty close, but try to go before school lets out and when the snow melts.  We went early part of June about 5 years ago and the park was close one day for snow.  I also liked the grand canyon and rode the mule to the bottom but I dont think I want to see it 3 more times like YS.  If you like nature and beautiful countryside go to YS and GT

I've not been to the Grand Canyon, on my bucket list, but I used to live in Wyoming and Cody, Jackson Hole, and Yellowstone are ALWAYS fun!! There is so much to see and you'll be in awe at GOD's creations.

Yellowstone is my vote also!

I will say though, that we went in the middle of July, during what was supposedly record breaking highs for the area, and we were still able to have a small snowball fight in certain areas of the park where it still had little patches of snow.

Just absolutely stunning up there!

Yellowstone!  We stayed on the west side of Cody, close to the Cody Night Rodeo, and drove in to Yellowstone.  Beautiful country!!!  Drive the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway from Cody to North Yellowstone.  We actually drove it back to Cody from the north gate of Yellowstone and it was a gorgeous drive!

There is still a good chance of snow at YS in June. Made my 4th of July run and was driving by snow drifts as big as my truck and trailer.  But you can go skiing in shorts and tank tops!
