She rode tough AND smart.  That was a crazy set up and the ground was less than desireable to say the least.  Katelyn and that mare have a BIG future

Abby Pursifull was 2nd and I "think" Kaitlyn Prentice was 3rd.

I heard the ground was really bad and a lot of horses fell. What was the crazy set up?

I heard the ground was really bad and a lot of horses fell. What was the crazy set up?

They shifted the pattern to the right so that there was a center alley, leaving a lot of room on the backside of the second and then when they got to the third barrel (it's tough to explain)....

They had a wing out set up for the calf ropers at that end.  For a horse that turns the third barrel to the left (which most do), it was a tough optical illusion for them because it looked like there wasn't much room to get between the panels and the third barrel.  If you had a lefty I can see where it would have been an advantage.  As it was most of the horses were setting up HARD going into the third barrel and it would have been tough to be battling the ground AND keep your horse up and moving into that turn.

Ah, that does sound a little crazy...of course the calf roper I get my info from didn't notice all that :)

Thanks for the posting the times!  Is the Bailey, Bailey Wright?  Sounds like a crazy set up.  I'm looking forward to seeing Katelyn and Kellies Chick run in person.  I've heard how cool she is and was hoping Michelle would bust her out one night in Vegas.  Anybody got videos from Sherrylynn's barrel race?

I was sick to see Michelle and Slick fall among the others.
I watched online and wondered why they were having trouble at the 3rd, thanks for explaining that R80.
The ones I thought were shoe ins to be in the top 5- didnt even make it. Its much like rodeo ground at its worst every year. Sad IMO.

That ground is shifty at best...  Those horses that run in to a turn and stay stood up handle it fine.  You could tell which ones were old rodeo war horses, they took care of themselves and still clocked respectably.

Its strange to me how they can have really good ground for the ACRA finals the week before.  Never saw even 1 horse slip...then this event ALWAYS has bad ground...hmmm..

I didn't think the ground was that good at the ACRA finals. I saw a lot of horses slipping around, however, they are seasoned rodeo horses so most of them handled it. I only went Friday night (which was the worst night) and by Sunday perf it was a bit better. IMO

And I went Saturday, didn't see any having any trouble.

Why run if you know the ground is ALWAYS bad?

At one time it would draw many former and present NFR qualifiers, and top futurity/derby trainers. It doesn't anymore. That may be why. Also, it used to be truly invitation only. I don't know if it is truly invite only anymore. Someone else may know.
