training help wanted
I have a coming 3yo that I want to send to a trainer, the horse is broke just needs a good handle put on him. The question I have is, what things does he need to know before going to the barrel horse trainer and $ is a factor
(60 days max with first trainer
) so for you barrel trainers, what buttons do you like to see on one before going to the barrels?

I like them to have a fairly decent handle on them before progressing to the pattern. I like them to be broke in the face, good bend throughout their body, I want to have control from their nose to their trail.. moves off your legs, side pass, yield, move around his front end and do roll backs. Should have a nice stop
(work off your seat
) speed transitions as well. Just overall well broke. I know a lot of people start em on the pattern before some of these buttons are really there but I find they take to the pattern much easier having the basics down pat. They don't have to be perfect but need a good foundation first or else you will regret it later down the road.
