Location: South of Canada and North of Mexico | Makes me sick thinking of this... but Sunday isn't going to be real warm. Bitter cold actually. Horses tore up their blankets so in the barn they will go. I always feel so bad for all animals and stray pets in the winter. :-( of course I can't get the picture to load but it's going to "feel like" -66 in my town and 2 hours north of here its -72.

Location: Mountains of VA | Bless you and everyone having to endure those cold temps!! I do hope all humans and animals make it through.
We have had a terribly cold, rainy fall/winter so far. It has been rough for our youngsters and pigs.
Sure hope we do not get your cold temps!!
Please take care. |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | Crazy out there. Today we had 40's, yesterday high 30's. Tomorrow we're starting in the 20's and dropping through the day with 20-35 mhp winds with crazy low temps for the next few days, wind advisory and wind chill advisory. All fall and winter we've had such drastic changes in temps. Not healthy for man or beast. |

| My grandpa grew up in North Dakota and always told us all the stories about how cold it was, I remember him always saying he'd wake up in the morning and there would be 3 inches of ice on the INSIDE of the windows. I supposedly have quite a bit of family from there but I don't know any of them. |

| In those low temperatures, how do you all keep water pipes from freezing? |

We have to dig water lines insanely deep to get it below the frost line. |

We have to dig water lines insanely deep to get it below the frost line. Do you have to leave your cabinets open & let the water drip fromt he faucets or the deep pipe lines do the trick? I assume you have to use extreme insulation too. I am thinking especially about sinks on the north side or coldest exterior side of the house.

The homes are built for the extreme temps. My house is 110 years old, never had plumbing freeze up. Many homes including mine have basements which helps keep it warmer on the main floor. |

I have a mobile home and have had my water freeze up once so far this year but had to do more with my pressure tank not working. I have my house banked with snow which helps insulate as my water lines are by the outer walls. As someone said our water lines are at least 6' deep for the frost line. Can't wait until we build in the spring and have a basement instead of these cold floors. I feel bad for all the livestock and pets that are not able to come in. |
