Location: MD | This video shows a coming 6 yr old, in November. 60(ish) days on the pattern. Had hauled to exhibition maybe 5 times. I did end up entering him later that weekend. Let's discuss overall impressions of him. What you think of how he is working, what you might want to see different and where you might expect him to finish up based upon this early outing. In this video, he worked 1.3 off of good Open horses, just for reference.

It looked like to me that he wasn't extremely comfortable yet, but that he was trying hard, and also that he had quite a bit more to give. To my unpolished eye, it looked like between 1-2 and the 2nd was his worst barrel, but it could have been the angle I was looking from. |

| The more controversial threads seem to be getting attention today. LOL I don't know if this horse can make up the 1.3 seconds, but he was just floating and did not have fast turns. I think he's still pretty greeen, even for time-onlys, but he found all the barrels which is very good. He's very smooth and fluid mover.

How old is the horse in the video? I was looking at the video & it said the video was uploaded in 2010. Was the horse 6 in the video or 3? |

He is nice. Is this a video from 2010? If so, is he a finished horse now? I saw other YouTube videos of a horse with the same name. |

Location: East of the Pecos | I'm confused. If this is actually the horse that's named, I know this horse and he's now a nice finished horse, but the post sounds like he's just started? Probably a different horse, but he looks nice in the video, correct and fluid, although green.  |

Location: MD | This video was taken in November of 2010. The horse in the video was then coming 6 and just starting to haul to exhibition. Yes, he finished into a rather nice horse who has now enjoyed much success in several parts of the country. The point of this thread was to discuss what was seen in the video and what opinion one might develop with regards to the horse's potential. It has often been said that many people feel that my horses progress in a manner different than others and I agree. In the end, I feel that by rewarding a young, green horse for trying and allowing them to make and learn from mistakes, I develop a much more confident and consistent horse for the future. |

Location: n.c. | I saw a horse that was trying. And needing help (which you gave), but the horse was trying. That counts alot in my book.
With a quiet rider and not pushing too hard, should have finished up a really good horse. And as you said, he did. |

I dont really like his turns....he seems to lead with his shoulder more than I like. Then kinda folds. Id be curious what his finished style is like. Did it change? It looks like you didnt have to help him much into his turns which is great. He doesnt drive out of his turn hard yet, but that is easy to add and is the last thing I like to train into them if they need it anyway. Some pick that up on their own and pushing them out of their turns too early in training can lead to problems like blowing out too early. Overall I would be very happy with this run at this stage. |

Location: MD | If you watch closely, after finishing the first barrel, I drop my reins on the horse's neck. Although young and unseasoned, he held the line across the pen and allowed me to recover my rein, without much disturbance to the run overall. That is my favorite part of this video. I love to see a young one who is honest and above all, that is what I strive to make. On another note, this horse, while very laid back and quiet, is actually one of the fastest horses that I have ever swung a leg over. Once finished, you could send this horse all the way into a pocket at speeds that left bystanders yelling "whoa" from the stands and he would inhale them every time. |

I hauled him up until the point that he was running rather consistently in the 1D locally and 2D in bigger company. Here is a video with me before he was sold. I sold him early in his 7 year old year and told the owners at the point that he was just about to really come into his own. I also predicted that as nice as he would be at 7, he'd be an even nicer 8 year old, as he was very slow maturing.

Location: MD | Let me explain some of the confusion as to the age of horse and date of video. Most often when creating these sorts of threads, I reach back into my video archive. I do so in order to allow me to use videos of horses that I am not currently hauling. As a professional, many know that any horse that I have is for sale. By using videos of horses that I no longer have, it cannot be claimed that these threads (which I post as educational opportunities for all of us) are actually thinly veiled "free sale ads". From time to time, I may use a horse that I am currently hauling to provide an example in response to a question, or if I feel that that particular individual might create stimulating discussion, but I do try to avoid doing so. |

Location: west of East Texas | I hope mine is doing that well after 60 days on the pattern. I see a horse that is moving at a rate that he's mostly comfortable with. The horse is waiting on the rider to pilot. I would have said there was quite a bit more speed to come as this video din't show the horse or the pilot getting into 'full throtle' mode yet. The horse is well patterned and is making moves with soft cues and soft hands. |

Location: Silver Lake, MN | Love these threads!! It is so fun to see a young horse you had in training, talk about it a little bit and then to find out how the horse turned out and if people are right! You can learn a lot.
He reminds me of a mare we sold, she was super quick light on her feet and it was so easy for her. She also lead with her should a bit like this horse but it worked for her so we didn't mess with it much. She stayed on top of the ground and was honest just like this gelding. |
