What's helped you the most when you make a run or whenever you practice to help both you and your horse? What's the one thing you always remember? Mine has to be "Don't ever turn before your leg goes past the barrel" That there seems to have helped me a lot :)

Yes, but I can't help it when my horse sets herself up WAYYYY before the barrel that's why I posted the other thread. She's a ratey horse and I'm more used to free runners. My other horse ripped the muscle in between her shoulder blade and the vet said I can't do barrels anymore with her but I can breed her and her other 2 foals has also been free runners with a long stride. If I was to try and explain my ratey's horse stride it'd be Sherry Cervi's horse, Stingray, except mine might have a longer stride

Hahahahah seriously though! One time I got to a barrel race, went to unload and realized I only brought one horse and forgot the other! I loaded her, shut the door and left. Completely forgot I had anther horse to load!

NFR roper left his horse tied to another trailer one year during 4th of July run.  He left, left his horse.

Stuff happens.

I'm just now getting to where I can actually have a complete thought during my run. Remembering not to sit too soon, not to sit too deep/hard and stay forward.

If I'm not scared going to the first I'm not going fast enough...ok well might have stole that from somewhere, but it's pretty accurate....

I don't  think about too much...I stay confident in that I've prepared enough before that we can go in and run a nice pattern, doesn't mean I don't ride cause I still am engaged in the run.....

I don't know if it hurts me or helps me.... but either way, down the hatch!

One thing is certain about having a little "magic in a can." I always think that I did awesome!

3 things-one for each barrel, anything more than that might just be too much for me to think and still stay on my horse LOL. The lady I bought my horse from gave me a sheet with this on it- 1st barrel- no woah, 2nd barrel- set, 3rd barrel- get out. The more I focus on just that, the better my run is. The last time I overthought, I was hanging (literally) off the side of my horse :P
