That was good, DD.  Perhaps a bit too high brow for some, but good, nonetheless.  The remarks and comments on that video were just as entertaining.

Ya know, stuff like this really ticks me off.  I was born and raised in California.  I have bonfires in my back yard all the time, I work at home, I shoot my gun here at home when ever I feel like it.  It is only in the "cities" that these type of rules apply.  Here in "redneck California we still live free, not perhaps as free as the Texan's he spoke of, but I don't have to get a permit to wipe my butt......  Sorry, but my state gets a bad rap because of Hollyweird and L.A. and S.F.  But most places are rural here, lots of farm land, lots of freedom.

I was thinking the same thing. We go out and shoot by the canal all the time. A lot of people on this board have never been to California or only to LA or San Francisco but not central CA - where most of their food is grown! But that's fine with me - they can stay where they are and hate California because we already have enough people here enjoying our great weather!!

T turning 3 - I'm surprised you haven't already figured out this site is full of narrow mined - California hating people. They think everyone in California is like what they see on their favorite television shows that keep them so entertained while they have to stay inside because the weather is sooooo bad!!

I apologize to you. Didn't intend to lump everyone together. I was mainly in agreement that there's too many laws in general. People have misconceptions about oklahoma too so I empathize :). We get made fun of a lot, especially about our lack of intelligence.  Brings to mind the law in NYC that a young girl can't buy a big gulp to wash down her aftr morning pill. Absurd is everywhere!

That video was actually quite funny.  He uses Santa Monica and Studio City as a basis for "all things California".   Maybe he should venture outside of his little area of LA County and see the REAL California.  All he has to do is drive 45 minutes north to be in the middle of thousands of acres of Avocados, Oranges, Tangerines, etc, etc... Another hour or so north and he has hit central California, rich with farming and ranching.  Not to mention our mountains, beaches and deserts all within a few hours drive.  He's been hanging out with the wrong crowd...LOL

.............and let's not forget a bankrupt government.  Taxes out the wazoo.  People are leaving the state in droves, and it's not because of a lack of natural beauty or great weather.  We're not talking about only wealthy people on the move. Middle class citizens are leaving like rats from a sinking ship, last time I checked....pouring over into neighboring states and states like Texas.  Top 5 state income tax, very high local tax, very high (if not the highest) sales tax, and highest tax on fuel in the country.  Of course, they have a $100 Billion Bullet train in the works.  Perhaps that will bring people and money back (sarcasm here).  I think the way the state has been managed is tragic.  California is a Progressive's wet dream, just as Greece is their socialist-utopia.  I do see a glimmer of hope, however, because I think a few level headed people are at least realizing that unless something changes, they may well be realizing a state and local debt that exceeds $1 Trillion in the not-too-distant future.  I do love their fruit....but their fruits?  Not so much.
In all seriousness, I love California and have been there many many times.  It's not California I dislike, nor Californians, per se'.  It is a hotbed of failed progressive-liberalism.

Yes our state is infested with liberal idiots, however not all Kalifornians (for some reason that "K" really offended me)  are idiots.  I farm rice, 200+ acres of it.  I live in the foothills were the gold rush was.   Sadly we have more people in the cities than the farm lands, people that have no clue where their food comes from, yet if they drove a couple of hours away from their favorite starbucks they would see.  It irritates me to no end the stupid ass things polititians do.  This is a beautiful state with so much to offer.  It is bankrupt, and people are leaving in droves.  I will wait it out.
But remember this, what happens here eventially happens to the rest of the country.  So smirk away, judge us unworthy, your time will come as well.  Our president will see to it.  Look how much your state has changed, you are just a few years behind.  They are leaving here in droves and coming to a city near you.

So would now be a good time to "think" about moving to that state?(rural areas)  Our city is getting way to big.....A lot of those who left Cal. did stop and stay in Seattle, but now they are coming to Spokane.

Very well stated!  California is the most beautiful state in the union, and when you add the climate, there isn't a nicer place to live.....were it not for the dysfunctional government and mindset.  It's hard to watch the state keep doing what it's always done and the downhill trend continues.  It's true that what happens in California eventually spreads east.

Agreed. I've been avoiding reading this thread because of the assumption in the title. Yes, to those who have never been here (or only been to LA or SF), this is the land of beaches, palm trees, and hippies.
I grew up in the High Desert here in CA. Then I moved to TX and felt right at home, not all that different (besides humidity) really. When I came back to CA I lived in the Central Valley, and it's nothing like Hollywood, Santa Monica, or weird San Francisco.
It's a beautiful, diverse state that is represented by a vocal minority to those who don't know any better.

This exactly! I can't speak for everyone, but at least when I think of California in a negative way, it's because of the way its government is run (and of course the crazy people in SF, LA, etc.) As outsiders, we really only hear about the high taxes, smothering regulations, pollution, illegals, gay parades, and celebrities. We don't hear about the good parts. Kind of like how when I tell people I'm from Michigan, they think of Detroit and Deerborne. That's far from the Michigan I knew. Or North Dakota/Montana/Wyoming even. When I told people back in MI about moving to/from these states, they all thought it snowed all year round, everyone was a cowboy, and there were no cities, just one room school houses and the occasional walmart. I think we all develop very warped stereotypes of other states...
