GREAT minded. I have one that sadly I haven't ridden, but she is perfect in every other way. Came out of race training, hauled 1500 miles and takes everything all in stride. I would own a dozen if I could afford them. |

It looked like she should have been sound, but it just takes so much to get one competitive and then find out they are unsound. We'll just use her for a broodmare.
She is so kind, gets along with all the horses and loved the foals this summer. She's like the sweet big sister. Very smart, I just can't say enough good things about her. |

That's so sad but how fortunate for her she ended up in a home where she's still appreciated. This morning I paid for a gelding to be shipped to me from Florida and the trainer said the same thing you did about them being sensible and good minded. He said that alot of them can be scorching fast but not for long distances at all. Lol I'm pretty hopeful so thanks for posting. How sweet that your mare isn't one of those fruitcakes and will help babysit the weanlings and others. Sounds like a keeper!

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | we were told she was bumped in a training race and came out of it sore in her back so they had turned her out for 30. That is the treatment for all things lameness apparently.
Needless to say, first thing I did when I got her home was to have a chiro/massage look over her and she pointed out that she was out bad in the poll, withers had scar tissue and her tail bone on top had been broken. hmmmmm so the story didn't add up. We had her caslick removed (for racing) and the vet saw it all too and said it all screamed "flipped at the gate" to him. I just can't see her getting upset and flipping, it's just not her nature, but who knows. Maybe another horse spooked and scared her, maybe they rushed her??? Will never know. We bought her for a prospective broodmare, so she will just become one sooner than later.
I'm sure you will love yours, I have talked to a few people with them and they love them. Anyone who has seen PYC vs IJ says Ivory James is the better looking one. They are both sires and I wouldn't kick offspring by either one out of my barn.

I've got 3 weeks on the pattern with her and I am not kidding, she is ready to enter jackpots. She is Very smart, has been VERY easy to get started and has a great mind. |

She is ready to be hauled to jackpots but I have not had her off the place yet. Everything has been canceled this past week due to the weather. I planned to take her this weekend and it was called off. I really don't expect anything to bother her. I've pushed cattle up the working alley with tubs and chutes banging and she doesn't even flick an ear. She was bothered more by the cows than the noise the first day I used her here. She will be my futurity horse this summer/fall as fast as she has come on. |

Keep in mind I started her November 10th so obviously she hasn't had many pattern work days in that time frame.....I like to do alot of other things with my OTT horses to see what kind of mind they have.

Do you mind telling how she's bred on the dam side? No I wasn't surprised that she is training up this nice.
I could tell the first day we worked her on our ranch that she had a good mind and would be pretty easy to start the way she reacted to everything going on around here.
We actually bought her to breed, didn't plan on even riding her until I noticed how smart she seemed to be.
This mare will be hauled all winter in preparation for futurities later this summer and fall.
She is out of a Special Show mare.
Here is a picture of her. She is 17 hh!
The only thing bad I can say about her is she's hard to climb up on!

I had thought of sending mine off for 30 days just to get used to western saddle but if he was that Good minded and it wasn't necessary, it would save me $650. Lol. |

I just started riding her pretty much right away. We bought her Nov. 2nd, and brought her home (12 hours). Let her rest a couple days and while she was resting we were working cattle all around her. My horse pens are right next to our cattle working pens so bring cattle past her and slamming gates and all the noise, was
when I could tell that she had a brain in her head. Some freak out really bad but the smart ones will try to get in on the work by the end of the day and that is what she was doing.
I rode her the 3rd day we had her home and started her on the barrel pattern the next week. She only gets pattern work a couple times a week, I do ride her out as much as possible and she does seem to enjoy cattle for some reason.
She couldn't even lope a decent circle when I got her, she was just track broke but pushing cattle and just giving them a reason to learn to place their feet and do what you ask them to do really helps. |

I'd take one to try, after having ridden this PYC.
Or I'd take another PYC. Either way I think they are really nice horses.

| Glad someone started this thread! I bought a gelding by Ivory James last January. He was raced and had about 8 starts. His SI was around 93, and is race record shows his last race that he was "fractious". With that being said, he was a little edgy once a I got him, but handled new places well. He was extremely cinchy, grouchy...treated for ulcers and that improved him 100% with the cinchyness and touchiness. I took it slow with him. He had to be lunged before being rode for a while. I took him on trail rides, which he was great at! He would get super nervous and high strung in a crowded situation at shows. Fast forward to now.... With lots of help from others and patience, he is doing much much better. He is settling down. I can take him to shows and he stands like a champ in the warm up pen with everyone. He is CRAZY talented!! Super work ethic, and will do everything 110%.
He does not enjoy slow work though, he gets pretty annoyed if he has to slow lope a pattern. He also can be a handful if not rode everyday (especially if you ride outside). This is where I see his "fractious" tendencies show through. He also can act like a grouch on the outside of the stall still, but if a bluffer about it. On the opposite note, he LOVES to be messed with and rubbed on and loves to have his head tucked in your arms.
Basically, he is a super talented horse, and I really think he has a lot of potential, and can't wait to get him seasoned. He learns super quick. Im still trying to keep up with him, so he is being patient while I catch up  I started him on barrels when I got him, but then took him off for a few months to just try to settle him down. I have taken it slow with him, since he is so sensitive. Here is a video back in November of us at a show exhibitioning. We loped to the 1st, and I just let him cruise the rest.
