Location: Bastrop, Texas | It was like Santa stopped by my place over the lunch hour when I saw the mail lady putting that package in my mailbox. I ran out to it like a little kid and I think I scared the poor woman half to death, mainly because of the drool....that plus my barking Rottie, Neva. Now I have cherry kuchen to eat for dessert tonight. It arrived intact and partly frozen. I'm lucky that you aren't living nearby, because sure as hell I would need a gastric bypass with someone of your talent and generosity feeding me. Anyway, all kidding aside, thank you very much! A critique is forthcoming. For the rest of you chefs out there, I am offering my gustatory expertise free of charge.

You have to be a smooth talking, slick talking, sexy man with a baritone voice and a way of pulling at heartstrings. Not everyone possesses my talents. I was born this way, honey. |

LOL he's so full of crap. Actually we were discussing the things we do during a Polar Vortex and I said I was baking kuchen. He started bawling and carrying on so I told him I'd send him one. It is kind of a dying art. My Grandma taught me how to make it years ago and I never tried it until after she passed away. The Polar Vortex made it handy for mailing kuchen, I didn't have to worry so much about it thawing out. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | Update: I just finished my 2nd piece. My girlfriend called.....and I didn't bother taking my face away from the trough to walk over and pick up the phone. I hope she understands. It was delicious! I am now officially a "kuchen connoisseur"!
Now...time for a cigar. |

Its a German dessert. Sort of a bread type crust filled with custard and fruit and topped with a butter/sugar/cinnamon crumble. |

I make it pretty standard as far as the northern German way is. Maybe its the same as your talking? I make a sweet bread for the crust with a custard filling, fruit and topped with a butter/sugar/cinnamon crumble. My grandma used tons of different fillings besides the typical cherry, peach, apple...she also used to make prune (which is what I'll make next for Timbercreek), cottage cheese and minced meat. I think it was typical to use whatever they had for left overs and make a dessert out of it. Dr. Hotty Pants hasn't checked in. Maybe my kuchen killed him off or has him laying on the floor holding his gut. |
