Location: Kansas | I am trying to sell my extra saddle and have a person interested but she's about 8 states away so I'd have to ship it. I have never shipped a saddle - always sold them locally - and after measuring the box my last used one came in, USPS says to ship a 30-pound box 31 inches by 19 inches by 23 inches from Kansas to Montana is going to cost almost $70. I can't find the box that my Cactus saddle came in to see if it is smaller, but is there any way to reduce the price of shipping? $70 makes it almost not worth selling the saddle and then you add in paypal fees and I'd be taking a pretty big hit. |

Location: Kansas | You need to squeeze it in a smaller box......they are charging you the oversized freight fee (I think that is what it's called).......Normally I can ship mine with USPS for $45-$50....but the box size makes a world of difference! |

Location: North Dakota | I shipped one fed ex from ND to TX for $57. I've heard the USPS is cheaper but would have been ticked to drag it all the way in their and have it be higher-ugh, I should have tried the USPS. Especially if my hubby would have been around to carry it in and out :) |

Location: North Dakota | I just sold two saddles and buyer paid shipping on both and paypal fees. I give them a quote and its agreed upon before shipping. Anything over what I quote them I pay for. I always ship through UPS because their shipping office is about a mile from where I work. Its easy for me :) Shipping averaged about $85 per saddle.

Location: mi | You should be able to cut down the box you are using if there is any room at all around the saddle. Just splice it down the corner and fold it over and tape the heck out of it. Most times its about $50 to ship but I have done them as low as $35. Also if you are associated with any businesses that have a UPS account the would let you ship through them it is a bit cheaper.
And finally usually the buyer pays shipping. The seller eats the Paypal fees unless agreed upon other wise.

| By me UPS is always cheaper than USPS. Depending on where it ships to it's generally $25-45. |

Location: Kansas | Did you ask for the cost of shipping the saddle when you sold the saddle? I always make sure to ask for $50 extra to cover the cost of shipping, and anything over I will pay the cost of....I actually do that with everything I sell |

| You can also get a packing box at Lowe's for a buck or two. That's where I got my last one at, and it was the perfect size for my saddle. I'd also recommend paying for the shipping online versus going to the store to pay. It's always a bit more any time I go to the counter regardless of if it's UPS, USPS, Fedex. |

I would never ship a saddle by USPS
Also pack it yourself and take to an actual UPS Hub That will save you a bunch
Insure it for sure!

Location: Michigan | We ship a few saddles a month. 99% of the time we use Fed Ex Ground using our AQHA membership discount.
Just shipped one on Tuesday from Michigan to Florida weighing 28# for $29. That was with insurance.
Most of the time UPS is a way too expensive because of the over size charge. |

| I have shipped a couple USPS--ask for Parcel Post instead of first class or priority. It takes a couple extra days to get there, but it cuts it down from $65 to $35-40. I think the last one I shipped was around $45, and that included $700 insurance. |

| When I sell a saddle the buyer always pays shipping. I always charge $60 and if shipping is over that I cover it. I keep my eye out constantly for large cardboard boxes behind Lowes, Home Depot, tractor dealerships, etc that are going to be thrown away and just throw them in my truck. I try to have 2 on hand at all times. I ship by USPS with insurance, parcel post....don't do priority or anything, those are expensive! I can ship anywhere on the east coast(I'm in TN) for under $60 but it usually cost at least $75 to ship to the west coast. |
