Well,  talked to Grandpajohn in FB, he left me a rather long, but infromative message on what is going on.  He has acute lukemea.  So BHW for him right now is the least of his worries.  He was also telling me of some of his trials and tribulations with treatment.  I'll let him tell you about that.

"
I have discovered that more than 30% of the out patients are faced with at least a 100 mile plus, one way, to be able to reach our Cancer Center. NO HELP with the cost of gasoline!! I spoke with our Cancer Center's directer, and he told me that having to make choices between treatment and paying the house note, or groceries, etc., has lead to many patients either skipping appointments, or NOT coming at all. A SURE death sentence. This isn't an isolated issue here, but all across America. These are very hard working Americans, NOT someone on some sort of "FREE RIDE." Therefore, I HAD to help. I started my own 501(C) public non profit, PONY EXPRESS CHARITIES, INC. Check us out on Facebook. Give us a like PLEASE. More important though, tell all our friends on BHW about Pony Express, and ask them to mail us a check PLEASE. I have contacted the home offices of Valero Corporation about sending me "fuel Cards" in increments of 25 dollars each, for FUEL ONLY, and the distribution is managed through the offices of Social Services. Depending on how far each applicant must travel determines the number of fuel cards they can receive. NONE of them can be on MEDICAID."

So being the resourceful person he has always been.  he made a charity.  I think it would be a great charity to boot.

I love donating to good causes backed by good hearted, honest people.  Thanks for posting!   I just went to facebook and maybe my computer is messing up but I didn't see a link or address for donations.  Did anyone else?

Glad to here he's busy and doing good.

He should consider contacting Exxon Mobil's corporate offices. They do a LOT of charity work as a corporation.

This
is the FB page for them.  I think he is looking into it and not starting it.  but it seems worthwhile for those not on medicaid.

Here is a note from him:

Pony Express Charities, Inc. We don't have a website at this time but it is in the works. Currently ALL donations are made payable to; PONY EXPRESS CHARITIES, INC. In the comment section of your check, write; "FUEL CARDS." This will mean, according to our by-laws, the donation can ONLY be used for the purchase of fuel cards. Mail to; PONY EXPRESS CHARITIES, INC. - 12285 RUST LANE - KEITHVILLE, LA. 71047. It is my hope that Pony Express will one day be able to reach out to other Cancer Center's as well. The transportation costs for commuting cancer out patients is so difficult for many to be able to afford. Cancer is such an UGLY, CRUEL disease. Thanks, and God Bless. John Carrigan (Grandpawjohn on BHW)

Thank you all for the kind words. My having acute leukemia is a relapse. Went into remission about two years ago, but now it's back. Some tell me that once you gain remission and the leukemia comes back, it returns very aggressively. 5% or less is considered in remission.  I am now at 25% plus, and growing. We will be beginning a "new" to me at least, chemotherpy tomorrow. Sure hope and pray it will work, but my team of Oncologist's don't really think it will put me back into remission.  They say nothing short of a stem cell transplant is going to do the job now. That's another problem due to having a messed up ticker, thanks to my first rounds of IV in hospital chemotherpy.
My main concern at this point is having someone to take over the reins of Pony Express. There is no one at this time. NOBODY wants to put the time needed in, with a salary of ZERO! That is in our by-laws. IF you are a member of the Board of Directors, you must be willing to serve strictly as a volunteer period, NO EXCEPTIONS!! To date, I have had almost EVERY Board of Director resign. Couldn't "cut the mustart."
I realize that I am VERY long winded on this issue of transportation costs, but I know them to be so true. I have taken my battle to ALL the local television stations, as well as the local newspaper, and haven't been extended an opportunity to make the good folks of the Ark-La-Tex aware of this problem. I feel sure that if they only knew, they would be quick to help
Well, I've taken up too much of y'alls time. I will try to keep one and all up to date. Thanks, and God Bless, Grandpawjohn.

I wonder if corporate America on some level wouldn't be the route to go on this.  Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, Ford Motors.......Valero is Venezuelea based and may not be too sympathetic to Americans.
John, you are a beautiful man and I hope your see an improvement in your health very soon.
