3horse slant gooseneck with a dressing room in the front.  It would be loaded with two horses plus tack and I'd have a large plastic container to carry water.  What do you think?  Can a half ton truck handle this?  here are a couple photo examples that i pulled off the net.

It's not pulling it that I would be worried about it would be stopping it. I would at least use a f250. I have a 3 horse/stock bp that I pull with a 1500 hd and I can feel it especially when the wind gets to blowing or I have a goofy horse back there. I know a goose neck is more stable but it's not something I would do. Now my husband would say go for it they pulled something similar when he was growing up with his dads 150. I would also be concerned with the damage pulling something like that would do to your truck after pulling it a lot. JMO. Nice trailer though!!!

If you do, you will want to add airbags or extra leaf springs to your rear suspension.

A 250/2500 is in most cases a half ton with beefy suspension, or so I've been told. for the Super Duty or HD versions that may be different.

I agree with the above that stopping it would be more my concern - and stopping under extreme circumstances that no one hopes to ever encounter.

I would look at weight of the trailer and what the truck gvw is

Also you would need to look at the tire rating

You can pull it but stopping it is a whole other can of worms.

How far would you be pulling this trailer, if you pull with a 1/2 ton, make sure you have 10ply tires and not p metric which is 4 ply. Also need like someone said beef of the rear of that truck i would go to nearest garage or trailer dealer to,figure what you need thirdly you would need at transmission line cooler. That being said gmc and chevy make a 1500hd i think it is special order that comes with beefed up brakes, trans oil cooler and heavier axles and springs. That could pull the trailer you want.

I pulled a trailer about the size of the first trailer for years with a heavy 3 quarter ton/diesel engine . Never had any problems pulling or stopping, however, everyone kept telling me once I pulled with a dully, I would never go back to anything else. Boy, were they right! The stability alone was a huge difference. My husband and I were just talking and we would not pull the top trailer with anything less than a heavy 3 quarter ton and defiantly not a 1/2 ton for either trailer.

edited to add... At first I was thinking if the top trailer is larger but going back and looking I am having a hard time telling if they are the same size or the bottom is smaller.

I wouldn't. Yeah, stopping it could be a problem, and most automatic transmissions in 1/2 ton pickups won't be able to handle that kind of load for very long. We have a two horse slant with a tack compartment up front. We used two separate a 1/2 ton pickups the first year (one did better than the other) and they did fine, but we like using a 3/4 ton much, much better.

May I ask what kind of 1/2 truck you plan on using? Some brands can handle it better than others.

Thanks everybody. right now I have a F350 but we are looking into all our options with downsizing.  I do beleive my parents might have pulled something similiar back in the 90s with a half ton truck.  The trailer I'm remembering was all steel on top of that.  But I do beleive it was tough on the transmission.

A lot of my problem with it is loaded, even possibly with two horses and tack, it may be over the weight rating of the truck. Which, sure, the truck can likely still haul - but, I would be worried that if something happened, and I was over the weight ratings, insurance wouldn't cover it. Which would really just stink.

I wouldn't try it. A half ton could probably pull the trailer somewhat decently as long as you're not going up and down hills but you're going to play like heck trying to stop. If a truck can't stop a trailer quickly and safely in case of an emergency situation, the truck should not be pulling that trailer. That being said, trailer brakes are a wonderful thing but they can fail and can't be relied on.

Not in a million years.

agreed.
I'd use a 1 ton, no less for safety.
