Long story short ….

Horse leaving me behind after turns … TF treeless suggested. Bought, adjusted but still felt "trapped" and not able to get up out of the saddle. Horse seems to really really like treeless .. much more relaxed and just seemed to run and perform better. Human lost weight … (started running and changed eating). TF too big … sold it, bought another treeless … JBN … human didn't like the look and overall feel of the TF (some ego .. some concern about it lasting). JBN … human concerned about quality, but horse likes treeless, so try anyway. Horse making good runs … human likes being centered. Human's back is taking a major hit … back pain that takes 2-3 days to recover from after a barrel race. Suggestion: new pad … Human tries new pad. Awesome run, no back pain for one ride and competition run however, horse was very lethargic … slow pretty run … (abnormal warm up … could hardly keep horse in a lope). Couple of days off for horse and human .. next ride … exercise in field … horse back to normal feisty self .. human major back pain again. chiro, Stretching and massage, helps, but … short term. Human is a regular runner … just finished a 1/2 marathon, so physical fitness is not really an issue. Brother in law and sister think Human should go back to a treed saddle, thinking Human needs the support of a treed saddle.

Suggestions?

Try strengthening your core. I did my first yoga yesterday and I am still in pain, I haven't rode much in 6 months and new I had to strengthen my core, so I am trying classes twice a week

Core strength is the key. It does not come quickly though, do a lot of planks and push ups and reverse crunches. Running does very little for core.

I have horrible issues with my si joints and my chiro suggested to strenthen my core. It especially got worse after pregnancy. I try to do yoga and Jillians 30 day shred at least 5x a week and I can tell a huge difference. I don't have to get adjusted as often and my riding has improved.

If you do go back to a treed saddle, try a deep seat like the treeless to make you feel more comfortable.

Core strengthening exercises and in the meantime a back support. You can get one from either Professional's Choice or PHT, I think.

I would think treeless would be worse on your back.. unless you have great core strength.

I have more core strength now than I did when I first bought the treeless. That's what's frustrating! Not saying I couldn't use more … most definitely can. It seems like the stronger I get and the stronger my horse gets, the more my back hurts! LOL ….

Hubby (non-horsey) not pleased about this latest development. Guess I'll ride in a borrowed treed saddle to see how that feels … and continue with core work.

Thank you all for your responses!
