chances are probably better that your plane will fall from the sky than actually being injured or killed by a terrorist.....but it is a risk.....and more so by the dumb locations that they pick to have olympics...

We were talking about this.  Both of us said No.

Saw an interview of one of our speed skaters asking his family to stay home.  Said he could focus better not having to worry about them.

Nope, I would not go.   I have seen interviews where our athletes have asked their families to not wear anything with USA on it.

I would rather stay home and watch it on TV, this terrorism stuff scares the crud out of me.

I would go in a heartbeat; we wouldn't be sending our athletes if our higher-ups didn't think it was safe.

I agree, especially since they have put out a travel advisory against going to the Olympics.

There are warnings for Americans who are traveling to Sochi/russia, just north of them in Dec there was a bombing, 30 dead.  I just see this as a bigger venue for terrorist.

Also the stance that Russia takes on gays is just another reason not to go.

No, I would not go. I'm a big chicken anyway, but with all the term-oil going on, I'd stay home.

I would probably not go. I don't follow most Olympic sports anyway... Many other trips I would prefer instead.

This has really been bothering me lately.  It really frosts my butt that they picked such a stupid place and they are telling family members of the athletes to stay home and if they do come don't "look like an American"   I can't help but feel something is going to happen over there.  I hope like hell it doesn't, but I'm afraid it will.

Nope, I wouldn't go. When even our athletes are told not to wear anything "American" outside of the complex, it doesn't sound safe. Even worse, Russia is not sharing its intelligence (snickering with my sarcasm here) with our intelligence, we actually don't know the extent of what concerns we should have. The situation is not safe. And I'm not one to step foot into a situation where there is the potential to be blown up. Call me crazy.

We were just talking about this last night and both of us really are nervous that some idiot is going to blow up something during the Olympics not matter how much security they have.  I always enjoy watching all of the different events and it seems if someone wanted to make a statement in front of a huge TV audience they will get it done even if there is a guard on every corner of Sochi

LOL.....Apparently, Tys-ol-lady hasn't been watching the news....many "higher ups" (Senators, etc) have said that they don't think it is safe and they would NOT send their familes.  They are now instructing "our" team to NOT wear their uniforms anywhere outside of the Olympic compounds" ..........

IMO, I think the Russians could care less about OUR safety.....

I wouldn't go. My relatives in Europe were going to travel over and go watch it but said it was going to be next to impossible to drive. Said they were essentially barricading so many miles around it and you needed passes and stuff just to get in the area. Hopefully it goes off without a hitch. These athletes work so hard. The Canadian men's curling team is from my hometown and I know a lot of us will be glued to our tv's because we won't get to watch them in person. A bunch of great guys !

Gail - 2014-01-27 3:44 PM

One of my dear friends  is a previous Olympic Judge and Team Leader for the figure skaters, we were discussing this recently....and she said she was glad she was not judging Olympics this year because of her fears of a terrorist attack.

I have known Ashley Wagner since she was five years old.   I used to fix her and my daughter breakfast at 6:00 am in the morning before school.  She shared ice with  my kids and daughter.    Her Dad is  a retired full Col. and West Point Grad - same as FC's hubby.      I am concerned for her at Sochi and sad that her dreams of competing at Olympics marred  by terror threats.   What a world we live...  :

Gail may I ask where you are from? Ashley used to train 30 minutes from me in Va.
