| I know there are many more important things out there but if you could spare some good vibes... I have my first interview for the job I want in the field I went to school for!!!!!!!!!! I have been busting my tail to get experience and work and pay off these student loans. My interview is Thursday for a Probation Agent. Ive been volunteering in our County probation department aside from working full time overnights in dispatch and realllly wanting it to go well.
Any advice or words of encouragement :)  |

| Thank you!!! I just tend not to interview as well when i REALLY want something. When I dont care as much I typically nail it. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | Sometimes asking a few questions about the job itself during the interview (instead of just at the end) shows someone who is enthusiastic and interested. Worked for me in my last interview. |

| Change your look change your luck? I finally landed a job after 11 months of unemployment. I had worked very hard on being outgoing and proactive in my interviews, but then I decided to put my hair up in a barette and wala! My new job was the first interview with hair up. I had two other offers from the same week's interviews so I guess the changed hair was what helped?
Good luck wishes coming your way. Getting a new job is tough these days not matter what or where. |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | As a hiring manager I can give you the things that I always took note of with an applicant. - Appearance: Look clean, neat and professional. They didn't have to be wearing a suit but whatever they wore needed to be appropriate for a professional environment (no super short skirts or sweat pants)...just clean and neat. Jeans, whatever so long as it didn't look like they pulled it out of the bottom of the laundry hamper
- be on time for the interview...better yet...be a little early.
- show that they had done a little homework and knew a little something about the job or the company they were applying for. shows interest.
- smile. (seriously...some were just so bored looking and or grumpy). Attitude matters
- don't be afraid to ask questions about the position
- Be able to tell me why they applied for the job...why did they want that position. surprisingly...a lot of them had no answer.
- at the end of the interview...thanking me for my time always made points.
- follow up after the interview with an email/letter expressing continued interest etc ALWAYS made someone stand out...it was a rare thing and showed true interest

Be polite, interested, no slouching in chair. Sit up strait, about mid way in chair. No negative comments even if you hated your last job and every one there. Always have something positive to say.

Ive done some research on their particular probation department so I have a few questions planned (if I can remember them lol)
I bought a new outfit. Gray slacks, grey and white top with a blazer and some simple heels. Nothing to over the top but nice.
Im really trying to be positive and relax. When I relax I usually nail interviews, its when I really want it, I tend to be less personable. |

If you think you won't remember the questions - write them down and take them with you! There's nothing wrong with taking a notebook into an interview with you. Even if you never open it, it may make you feel better knowing you can reference it for any questions! Also, be sure to write down names of the person/people who interview you so you can send thank you cards! |

Location: Bandera, TX | Hand written "Thank you" card after the interview, expressing your interest and why you think you would be a the perfect fit (just one sentence). That has worked for me every time. I would usually prepare the note ahead of time and then leave it with receptionist to give to the people who I interviewed with. |
