Location: Somewhere around here | For the past few years I have not ridden my horses with reins that have clips on the end. Yes, they are very convenient but to me it seems like a lot of "movement/clashing" will go on in the horses mouth if they have a bit in. Am I the only one who thinks like this? Am I wrong and it doesn't really affect the horse very much? |

Location: never in the right place | I started riding without clips after and Ed Wright clinic. He says that the metal clips are bang or vibrating against the bit and he didn't like that. |

| I've seen them come undone before. For the record I have a clip on one side of my reins. |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | I use them on all my reins because I switch to different headstalls on different horses on different days. I have a buddy that freaks out about my snaps, says they'll break. I told her that I've seen her have her head up her butt and drop her reins which are laced on each side to the bit and her horse can get its leg through the reins and have a hell of a wreck. I'd rather take the chance of my snap breaking. |

Yep, I don't skimp on my snaps. I only use brass snaps. |

Location: Great NW | Clips can come undone at the most in opertune time. I do not use them - i have reins for each bridle I might use. |

I personally don't use clips on my reins for the same reason, so it's not just you

One of my friends doesn't use snaps, but during a run last fall one side of her reins came unlaced during a run. Luckily she has a nice horse and he kept on trucking. Actually ran her fastest time of the weekend with reins on one side. LOL |

He also told me that the swinging clips were why I was throwing my reins over her head at the second. Took the clips off and never did it again. |

He will bobble his nose up and down when riding him, seems like the
Vibration irritated him,
I take them off he is fine, no nose bobbing. Thought it
Was his teeth, had him check,they were fine. Eventually
Figured it out when my trainer at the time put split
Reins on him with no clips. Then the little light bulb went off!

yep. me too. Trigger snaps are dangerous. I have no clue why manufacturers put them on reins. Use the good stuff or nothing at all |

Location: North Dakota | I'm always changing reins and bits so I have snaps on all my reins. So much easier.
I just use the little trigger snaps that are light. I don't like big heavy clips.
I realize 100% that there is a chance they could break or fail. However, in 25+ years of riding, it has never happened. (Of course, that doesn't mean it can't.) |

With that being said, SG, CYA Ranch & Southtxponygirl, I would like pictures of your snaps to see what kinds you use, Please & Thank you! These are what I use, but I use brass only... And I always make sure the snap are what ever you call it the part that opens up is facing to the outside. I know I'm bad but I use the trigger snaps too, I have never had problems with them, I face the clip to the outside. I used the smallest snaps that I can find.
