| when you lose a good horse.
Our Morgan mare went to the hospital last night and never came back. Surgery showed 8 to 10 big stones in her intestines one had tried to pass and ruptured her.
Totally sudden.... she was fine two days ago and husband was making plans to run her this year. It's never easy I'm sure but does anyone have coping ideas because frankly I'm. A. Wreck. |

| Just go ahead and cry as much as you need to. Pray for strength and realize that it will eventually get better. So sorry for your loss. |

Try to get in the mindset that she was a gift and you were blessed to have the good memories, rather then dwell on the loss. They all have to leave us at some point. You don't ever get over it, you just get used to them being gone. |

Exactly what CYA said. Time. One day at a time and baby steps. We lost one quickly the day before Thanksgiving. The shock of the suddenness still haunts me and the "what ifs" or wondering what I missed. I know we did all we could and somehow, it was just her time. I am sending prayers your way. The pain will lessen. I promise. Your heart will begin to heal. |

Location: Oklahoma | So sorry for your loss! I think it's harder to lose one when you least expect it. My thoughts and prayers go out to you!Time helps a lot, but I'm one of those people who have to take time to mourn. That might mean not going down to the barn for a day or two (I'm sure you husband or someone close to you will understand and take over for you). You certainly won't stop missing her, but you can take the time to try and make peace with the situation and know that she is no longer in any pain. |

Location: LaBelle, Florida | Been there and going through it now...I feel your pain. Just put down a good horse due to colic. Just a really nice horse I could trust with my daughter and I could load up and go on the trails with her.
Now down to one and at the moment an EMPTY barn because my filly is at the trainers getting started.
I really need to go through my tack and sell my excess, but can't make it through the tack room door yet.
You don't realize how much a part of the family they become until they are gone.
Hugs. |

Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | God’s Foal
I'll lend you for a little while
My grandest foal, He said,
For you to love while she's alive
And mourn for when she's dead.
It may be one or twenty years,
Or days or months, you see.
But, will you, till I take her back,
Take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you,
And should her stay be brief,
You'll have treasured memories
To bring solace in your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But, there are lessons taught on earth
I want this foal to learn.
I've looked the wide world over
In my search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes
With trust I have selected you.
Now will you give her your total love,
Nor think the labour vain,
Nor hate Me when I come
To take her back again?
I know you'll give her tenderness
And love will bloom each day.
And for the happiness you've known
Forever grateful stay.
But should I come and call for her
Much sooner than you'd planned,
You'll brave the bitter grief that comes
And someday understand.
Hugs to you!! |
