I AM being nice
Posts: 4396
Location: MD | I sold a horse earlier this year through a broker. Very nice horse, loaded with ability and just as sweet as they come. Last Saturday, I received a text message from that broker. They had heard that the horse was being offered for sale again. She told someone about the horse and they went to look at the horse. The pictures that were forwarded to me of said horse had both myself and the broker in tears, as we were talking to one another on the phone. Though the grace of amazing friends, I was able to get it arranged to get that horse out of there and just spoke with the new owners. They are now headed home with a very sweet, very skinny horse on the trailer. It will be some time before we are back where we need to be, but each mile of their drive has us one step closer. If everyone could please send up a prayer of thanks for amazing people who went above and way beyond to rescue this horse, I would truly appreciate it!
So, after all that, if a young girl from AL shows interest in a horse that you have for sale, they will pay full asking price, in cash, but still, for the sake of your horses, please make sure that you are not dealing with this one, in particular!

I agree and unfortunately have had this happen in the livestock industry quite a lot. It sure does stink when you watch something that had awesome potential go to waste due to poor feeding, inadequate care or any number of easily preventable things.
I'm glad the situation is turning around! |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | That makes me sick. That happened to my HS horse after I sold him. He won a buckle series for his new owner right off the bat, but then she turned 16 and went boy crazy. He got kicked out in the pasture for a year with no feed, no care at all before they thought to offer him for sale through the trainer that arranged their purchase. The family that went to look at him told me they were HORRIFIED when they saw him, but luckily knew what he had been and bought him anyway and brought him back to life. I still feel guilty over what happened to him. How can people justify that kind of thing to themselves? |

Location: stray dump capital of the world | Hence my post of last week, "so I took on this horse." Perfect example of a person who shouldn't own a pet rock. I cannot understand the lack of simple care and compassion in some people. I am so happy that this horse will have a chance at a quality life just as the horse I took on. Sending prayers for this little mare to make a full comeback and live a full and happy life. |

Location: MD | The worst part is, this child has 8 other horses on the place. The horses that she makes good runs on and does well with all look decent. If she does not click with one, or starts hitting however, she apparently just throws them out in the field and forgets them. It's not that they don't know how to care for one properly, or have fallen on hard times. |

I know what I would put into my horse to keep them looking and feeling great (cripple, running or whatever) and I know there aren't near as many of those kind of people out there as we would like to think. Prayers...and I am glad nothing of mine is up for sale. :) |

| This is down the street from me. I have called the SPCA- not in an area they go to, called the sheriff- he said they have notes from vet that horses are old and "living out their life". They have about 20 horses and 20 cows on 10 acres. Some animals are fed, some are starving. If you are not going to give an old horse the supportive care they need, put them down. I offered to pay vet, free round bale- no to both. I called a couple of rescue groups to see if they could get something done. He is one of 6 that look like this and they look much worse in person.

Location: Texas | Rodeomom3 I have neighbors with horses like that too on the road next to mine. It's the same thing. Sheriff deputy lives on my road! They have "food" and "water" so there's not much else they can do. one of them either broke or infected his left hind fetlock. it fused in a flexed position and is the size of a cantaloupe. There's a bunch running around and some are skin and bones and a couple look OK.
Then down my road, this man has 20+ horses on about that much land⦠free to breed with each other⦠the babies are now adults and he has so many they didn't get halter broke or anything else. wild as ever. One got injured and they had to take it to the vet. Tech told me they had to run it in the trailer with hotshots like a cow. And that it knocked the vet OUT who was working on him!

Location: Bastrop, Texas | People like this who have absolutely no sense of decency or empathy and wantonly neglect animals to this extent are often times psychopaths later on. This sounds worse than neglect. Deeply disturbed people do these things.
I'm afraid this person will evolve and her notoriety will grow. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I have know of people that can pay out the nose for a nice horse, but some people are so da* lazy that they dont care if the horses get feed are not, but they can say that they own a horse. Or the horse was bad so lets dont feed them... Every time I hear someone say that they withheld feed because their horse was bad just makes my skin crawl. They dont need a horse...

I agree.....what makes people think a horse has the reasoning power to think "I was bad, so I can't eat". IDIOTS!
I bought one of my best broodmares at a neighborhood sale. She was so starved, I thought she might not even make it home. We left the sale tag on her so we wouldn't get the sheriff called on us. I kissed her on the nose that day and told her "you'll never be hungry again". She died last year, and I am happy to say, I kept my promise. |

This describes the horse that was abandon on my place to the T. He was skin and bones and the sloth owner said that he "just didn't want to eat." All he does is eat. Poor boy is so grateful, fat and happy. I have cut all ties with this person after the horse became very ill on Tuesday and she refused to call a vet or offer to pay the vet bill. I ended up doing so, being responsible for the bill and the horse is fine. My husband is beyond p.o.ed at this person and her lack of commn decency in taking care of her horse. Her comment to me was, "I said not to call the vet, but you called. You called, your bill." Flippen loser. All I can say is what comes around goes around. People like this will get theirs in the end. I am certain that there is a special place in Hades for people who abuse animals be it through violence or neglect.
