I'm turning 23 in May and Tricare is kicking me off my parents plan. We were previously under the assumption that I could stay on the insurance until I was 26 as long as I was in college. Which im graduating in December, so this would have to be done anyway. Tricare does offer a plan for $180 a month with no deductible and im wondering if that is pretty competitive with the other health insurance plans. Has anyone with Tricare tried the plan they offer? Just trying to get a jump on this so that I wont be uninsured later this year. So please give me your input! Thanks guys!

You need to do some research as each state is different. I know by us there are many doctors that won't take Tricare. I would look for a better insurance carrier. Here is a start.

Is Tricare the best, no.  But it's not the worse.  It's all we have ever had.  I am still alive.  Just remember it's government health care.

I'm still under my Mom's insurance until I'm 26 but I have TriCare as my secondary insurance. I haven't had awful luck with it but I definitely have better coverage through BCBS. Although, Tricare does cover one pill that I am on that BCBS won't. It won't cover my birth control, though.

ETA: I have the Standard. I know it's different than Prime.

I work in a pharmacy and I see a lot of people that have BCBS. It seems to be fairly popular. For those of you that have it, what kind of premium am I looking at with that?

May not be related, but long before I was married and had tricare, I was with Aetna and was thoroughly impressed with them.  I don't know if they are still as good or not but wanted to put that out there.
