Location: Bandera, TX | Part of me grew up on a ranch nearby. I used to go over the border on a frequent basis. My folks sold the land in the late 80's and my husband and I sold our lake house about 8 years ago. It was not safe any longer to go over and visit like we enjoyed doing in the past. Had a co-worker go down and hunt last week and he said it was very different than the last time he was there 6 years ago. Other than the lake to fish, not a thing would attract me to go back. I even passed on the ammy rodeos down there the past couple of years. |

Location: College Station, TX | The SO's family has a lake house down there we go to some, it's pretty but the water is COLD even in the summer so that's not much of an option. The most entertainment you will find other than that is people watching at the walmart. Don't go. |

Location: del Rio, Texas USA!!! | The 7th and 8th of March, there is a festival just 25-miles east of Del Rio in Brackettville, the annual 'Fort clark spring Days' at Fort Clark, great food, family-fun, lots of vendor booths with crafts, jewelry, toys, food, etc. Bands playing, tours, rubber-ducky race in the Springs, Indian Pow-Wow, and Civil War Regiment Re-Inactments with cannons, guns, tents, soliders, and more.
Del Rio also, has a newly-formed NBHA TX11 Barrelracing district, new 2014 schedule has not been decided, yet, however, you may keep up to date at their new website www.nbhatx11.webs.com for more information or check out their Facebook page at NBHA TX11 .
del Rio is a laid-back community with a huge Mexican-influence, lots of great Mexican restaurants with authentic Mexican food, not citified. Manuel's Steakhouse, Doc Holidays, El Patios Mexican, Ponchos Mexican Restaurant, and Julios (Julios Chips and Salsa), and more.
Nite-life is filled with regional bands and karaoke at doc Holidays, Lorina's Cantina, The White Horse Lounge, or Hookers at Rough Canyon. Del Rio boots an award-winning community theatre with the Del Rio Upstagers performing broadway, and off-broadway productions several times a year. The Del Rio Arts Council offers weekday and weekend art, dance, and culinary classes at The Firehouse Gallery, and at the beginning of each month, The First Friday Art Walk' is a community favorite for art-lovers and social butterflies. A walking tour thru the Art District in Del Rio downtown offers regional artists opportunities to showcase their artwork to the community.
some people may think Del Rio offers nothing, if you enjoy peace and quite, a slow-pace, friendly people, and fun Del Rio-style, then you will enjoy your stay in our little town.
PM me, if you need more information.
Boutique women's shops like "Buffal Girls', and 'Russell's Gifts'. there are other cool shops in Del Rio along Main Street dwntown, and the weekend 'Pulga', Mexican fleamarket is just a stone's throw from the International Border.

Location: TX | I currently live here now. I wish I was told about some of these things when we first came down.
The lake is AMAZING, it is one of the top 4 bass fishing lakes in the country however we only seem to catch them if we happen to snag it by accident.
If you are coming to visit, it's great but to live you have to prepare for things like medical doctors, poor customer service, limited vets & no after hours vet call either & never expect anyone to be on time or in a hurry. I will not go over to Acuna or Mexico either. I know & work with people who do for doctors, vets, etc but if you don't have reason to go just don't bother.
Items to see/visit while here: The border fence is interesting to see, love that it ties into a crappy barbed wire fence at the end of the road! The val verde winery is the oldest winery in Texas - love the wines & the tour of the place takes maybe 30 minutes with the tasting. Of course the lake, which is pretty clear & is down quite a bit but still over 100 feet in some parts. Seminole park - about 45 mins from Del Rio. Has Indian cave paintings, really neat but it's a 1.5 hour hike & best to do it while it's cool out!
Those are the main hot spots that I take people to that come visit. |

| Can't wait for NBHA to get going!!!!! Just moved to Del Rio for work, and am pretty interested in finding any one positive thing about it. Don't think I'll be sampling the night life, I don't think my crowd would live through the cultural difference. I won't be dropping my guard anytime soon, too much cartel and illegal traffic activity for comfort. Going to try really hard not to wake up chained in a basement in Mexico. I know I sound negative, but this place freaks me out.... |

You have the right to be freaked out, I have lived on the border all my life, and these last 10 years have been the worst its ever been. So darn glad that we moved a ways away from it... |

I agree with everything you said but I really liked Seminola Canyon and the Winery are really cool to see.
I'm PRETTY darn excited about the NBHA, when is that happening?!?!? I sold everything when we moved here & live in town because I didn't want illegals running through my property, cutting fences, or scarying my horses or us. I HATE MY LIFE here without horses and have been here a few years now. I've met a few people who have horses but other than a professional reiner no one is really into competing in anything.
Del Rio does have its charm, don't get me wrong. And compared to other border towns or other larger cities the crime rate is relatively low. If an illegal is caught in del rio area, they go straight to jail so it's more quiet. Not saying anything can't happen here but I feel safer here than I thought I would.

Hunting feral hogs out of a helicopter is where it's at..Wish they would hunt them distinct. The damage they cause is horrendous. |
