I need recommendations for a good moisturizer for my face. In the winter, my face gets so dry that I always look like I'm peeling (like you would with a sunburn). I use Bare Minerals finishing powder on top of a liquid concealer, and halfway through the day they look so caked on and flaky it's disgusting. Any suggestions? Β

I use Oil of Olay with SPF 15 in it year round for the daytime. At night I wash my face with just water on a washcloth, as hot as I can stand it and no soap of any kind. Then I use a heavier night cream from Oil of Olay for sensitive skin. I always put lip stuff on at night too. My favorite is in a little blue tube from Bath & Body works called My Favorite Night Balm from C.O. Bigelow. I am well over 40, and tend to have very dry lizard like skin and this all works very well for me.

Josie Maran Argan Oil, don't be afraid because it says "oil". Best thing I have ever tried for my skin and I am over 60. Only trouble I have is very very puffy under my eyes which I think is allergy related.

Β I can't vouch for a great moisturizer since I'm constantly on the lookout myself, but I do know that powder products tend to emphasize dry skin. Is there any way you can switch foundation/concealers? Just be sure to avoid things that have high quantities of alcohol. If my skin is constantly red and chaffed on my face I will moisturizer with a light coat of Vaseline, but if you're clog prone that will introduce a whole new problem. So take that suggestion with a grain of salt!

Β For a cheap remedy I really like the intensive healing by St. Ives; it's got a red accent label. if you want something little more expensive I really like Murad... the purple one it's the age rejuvenating one, it's pretty heavy so it's good to wear at night. Β  Then I like the Murad Essential C Β with the orange label for daytime use because it has 25 SPF. Β

But it I had ashy skin like you. It was so gross. Β The Intensive healing by St. Ives just happened to be a stocking stuffer and I used it on my face and it didn't clog my pores and it took care of the flaky skin. Β I think the face was you use also makes a difference. Β I use the Murad gel cleansers and they are SO gentle. Β That, plus my Clairsonic and the Murad lotion and there's zero dry spots. Β Kind of high maintenance but I have very delicate dry skin so I'm going to do what works. Β

I use Mary Kay timewise moisturizer. They have a lotion and a day and night solution, it really helps my face stay hydrated. It's a little pricey but lasts forever.

I use the same C.O. Bigelow lip balm at night, too! As for my face, I really Hope in a Jar from Philosophy during the winter. It's seems more expensive because it's 8 oz. but isn't really much more expensive than anything you can buy a drugstore.

I'm a Clinique DDML user.  Have been for almost 20 years.  Coconut oil is awesome for dry skin.  Sure would be a cheap cheap cheap alternative.

Sounds like you need to exfoliate.  In the winter I do a mild one daily.   BUT another trick I use is olive oil, then stand over a steaming pot.  IF your really dry I would recommend this, but exfoliate first.  A homemade exfoliate is mix rice flour and some baking soda.

I use a product line called Dermalogica, love it but it's spendy.

I used to have the same problem until I started using a foaming facial cleanser and a facial moisturizer and I started using a BB cream too.

I have an extreme problem this year with dry skin all over. I thought I was going to have to go to the dermatologist. For face I use Boots No. 7 Night cream and Day cream. Not too expensive and my skin is so soft and never chaps. For body--I asked at Ulta and the manager recommended Ahava. It is great too. It took about a week to see improvement but my skin is SO much better. It actually feels like skin again. It was so dry and chapped that it hurt to get in the shower.

Edited to add that I order from drugstore.com

I love Clinique's dramatically different moisturizing gel because I have acne prone skin and the gel is oil free. Their lotion is heavier and it's great too. My mom introduced me to Philosophy's hope in a jar and it's awesome as well!

Clinique moisture surge is what I use and I have little eczema(sp?) spots on my cheeks especially in the winter and this helps  A LOT! I also have oily skin and since its a gel it never makes me break out. I'd ask for a sample @ the clinique counter and atleast try it on your hand

I have tried every kind of cheap brand out there with no luck. A friend with oily skin gave me her Estee Lauder samples she had and I LOVE them. Use am and pm and my face never peels. It used to be terrible year round and especially bad in the winter.

I started using the moisture surge a few months ago and it really has helped my peeling dry skin. I also started to use their seven day scrub a few times a week and i think the combo is great for super dry skin.

Clinique is all about exfoliation.  The Clarifying lotion exfoliates, used with 7 day scrub once or twice a week works great.  I love the Turnaround Cream too.  I could go on and on.  LOL   I don't care how expensive of the moisturizer is it can't soak through dead skin.  Get rid of it.  Exfoliate, then moisturize and watch your skin glow.

I have tried TONS of different products, I have combination skin I would say. I am oily on my t-zone, but I get dry patches next to my nose. I am using coconut oil now, and I LOVE what it's doing to my skin.

Bag Balm! Coconut oil is like putting water on my face, does nothing for me. I have acne prone skin and BB doesn't make me breakout. Shania Twain uses it too. LOL
