Expert Posts: 3965 Location: Wisconsin	I am trying to win a contest. Real rodeo girls of 2014! The prize is a photo shoot this summer with the photographer. Id love to get some professional shots done with the horses. I am currently sitting 2nd, voting ends the 28th of this month. TO VOTE! Im also going to share a bit about myself below for those of you who would like to get to know me a bit better before voting. I am 22 years old, from Wisconsin. I have grown up around horses but not barrel racing. A friend of mine took me to a speed show when I was about 13 years old, and my pony chloe and I just fell in love! I competed in speed shows the first few years and moved up onto the nbhas once I got a bigger horse. I have always wanted to rodeo and ive always looked up to the pro barrel racers. I knew someday thats what I wanted to do. My dad supported me the entire way! and hauled all over with me, I did a bit of high school rodeo in my teens as well as bigger barrel races and local nbhas. My dad is and will always be my biggest fan and supporter. He hauled everywhere with me until his disease (emphysema) just wouldnt allow him to come along anymore. It was a hard time in my life, when I turned 18 I got my WPRA permit and started hauling I thought my horse and I were ready but the mental side of it all just broke me down and I had a rough start. I didnt know many people and I just was lost without my dad. But he was always there for me an stood by my side. The next year 2011 I decided to try it again and I filled my permit that year, things really turned around for me when I got out of my head and realized just because my dad couldn't be there physically he was still there in his heart. I knew this is where I belonged and I knew me and my horse were capable of winning. In this time I also had bought a young colt to start (training my own was always something I wanted to do as well) And I also decided to become a farrier and attend farrier school. My dad lost his battle with his disease January 7th 2012 shortly after I started farrier school. I rushed back home and got to spend his last moments by his side. I lost my best friend that day and it came to a point where I just felt like falling apart and giving up, but I knew thats not what he would have wanted. it was hard but I went back to school and worked hard and drove myself. My dad taught me many things and I knew giving up just wasn't an option. Its been 2 years now and I have come so far in my career as a barrel racer a trainer and a horseshoer. If it wasnt for my dad I know I wouldnt be the person I am today. My horse bacardi holds a special place in my heart. We have been through alot in the 4 years i have owned him. Many ups and downs along the way but the journey we have had is what has been the most amazing part of it all. To compete at the level we are now has just simply been amazing and I am truely blessed. Granted, he isnt completely finished yet bacardi has proven him self in the arena and he has inspired me to go on to do more training. I believe I am a "real rodeo girl" and my horse is my proof. Thanks again everyone for taking the time to vote and read! I know it may seem like a silly contest but Id really love to win and get some photos taken with my handsome man.
