I'm getting ready to order a new Sibley next week and wanted some opinions on rough out fenders or fully tooled fenders. I like the look of both but hate how rough out picks up dyes from jeans. Do the fully tooled fenders rub your legs raw? I have never ridden in them. Any opinions will be helpful in my choice. Its a fifty fifty I like the way they both look

I have always gone with rough out because I *assume* tooled would have more slippage, but I have zero personal experience with tooled.

I do not like my rough out fenders.  They make my pants leg ride up and twist.  My fully tooled saddles do not rub my legs raw at all.  If you get a saddle with a lesser quality leather it might make sores.   Roughout fenders don't help you "stick" in the saddle.

I really hate how these new blue jeans bleed unto the rough out fenders. The quality of jean material is in the tank. I never had this problem before.

I have roughout jockeys and fully tooled fenders. Love it! Just enough, but not too much.

I hadnt really thought of the rough out causing my pant leg to move up but they always did in my rough out fenders. Something for me to think about. Thanks everyone.

I totally agree- I really dislike the rough out fenders that I've had because of the pants riding up issue.

No issues with my fully tooled ones.

A couple of my saddles do have the rough out fenders and I never had the problem of my pants riding up, And I do have saddles with the tooled fenders and really like them better, I think they just look good with the tooled fenders. I agree with the lower grade leather if they are rough out they will make your pants legs ride up.

I much prefer rough out. I usually don't have much of a problem with my jean dye rubbing off on them, just gotta wash them a couple of times then it usually stops that. Tooled and plain leather is so slippery....I love the look of my plain fenders but it took a little while to get used to after riding in the roughout saddle for so long.

I've always had rough out fenders up until the new saddle I got about a month ago. I really noticed how much the dye had run off of my jeans onto the rough out, and when I first got that saddle it was the only thing I didn't like because it felt so sticky. So far I'm loving the fully tooled saddle, doesn't feel slippery at all and hasn't rubbed my legs at all (even after riding 3 horses the second time I rode in it). Plus, I don't think the tooled will show the dye from my jeans the same which would be great!

It's even rubbing off on my fully tooled fenders. Driving me crazy!
But it doesn't matter to me either way.. My most loved saddle is tooled on the fenders though.

I get rough out jockeys and tooled fenders. I really do not like the rough out fenders for all the reason everyone else states. The tooling helps a little more than smooth would be, but the rough out jockeys are what makes me stick! Also. I find the rough out makes my legs feel like they are sticking too much and I like the feeling that when I move my leg back, everything isnt stuck to it and going with it... lol

I hate roughout unless it is on an older saddle and made  smooth by use. lol.  Rubs my legs raw.

I have one of each & I like the rough out better. Like the look and the feel of it against my leg.

I have only ridden in full rough out, it makes me feel more secure in the saddle. But i do have a problem with my pant legs riding up. I like the idea of rouhg out jockeys for helping to keep me in the saddle and then tooled finders
