Location: TX | We are doing our taxes & owe money even with claiming 0 dependants through out the year for both of us. I work long hours through the week (9-10 per day) plus some weekends, holidays & answer emails, calls, etc all other times. I worked hard & was promoted last year.
My husband & I moved to an area we didn't know, sold stuff we didn't want to for his job. He works odd hours & we usually NEVER have days off together unless one of us takes a day of vacation.
I feel like my spirit has been completely dashed. We worked hard to pay off student loans early, trying to cut bills down, etc and be responsible people so we can have things we want. I see our dreams just being pushed aside more as we paid a bunch in taxes yet still owe more! I'm working my tail off & paying a ton of taxes to people that I work with who don't even show up to work right now because of getting loads of money back in taxes they didnt even pay in! We are also DINKS - double income, no kids...... I'm just frustrated & sad. Sold horse, trailer, etc & been waiting to get things in order/paid to get back to it and this just doesn't give me any hope. Just wondering if anyone feels the same? |

It happened to us too. We both claim Single - 0 and we owe to Federal and state. It sucks.
It's even worse when my cousin (who is single, 2 kids) QUIT her job after finding out how much she would get back in taxes ($7k) and is taking her kids on vacation to Florida this week. Said she would find a new job when she got back. She worked retail at Kohl's, there is absolutely no way she paid in $7k in taxes. It really irks me that tax time is a huge payday for some and breaks the bank for those who have already paid in thousands throughout the year. It's one thing if you are getting money back that you've alread paid in, I am just irritated that some people get thousands extra back. |

Ya know, The 1st time I heard about people getting more than they paid in I knew something was wrong and it couldn't last. I may not be very smart but I can add simple numbers. |

Location: TX | This is the example i'm talking about!!! We redid our taxes as if we had a kid this year & would have gotten $4k BACK!! Which is not even close to what we paid in but still.
It's more frustrating for me because our employees are getting taxes back & not coming in to work. We are offering overtime yet only have a few that go for it. I'm salary yet work rediculous hours to help. I'm just feeling overwhelmed, under appreciated, exhausted & depressed.
I haven't had a normal vacation in years. We don't have horses which at least gave me some relaxation. I just work to pay for others who don't! |

Location: North Dakota | We are having to break husbands 401K to pay taxes this year. We saved nothing due to our health insurance doubling in price! And FIL got sick and has no insurance so we have had to pay out of pocket for his chemo! I have considered selling out this year, because if FIL gets worse we are going to have to sell a vehicle to survive! |

Location: Central Montana | I haven't started working on mine yet. I file an EZ form so it usually just takes a couple of hours with online software. I have an extra $10 taken out of each paycheck to go towards taxes. Not enough to miss it but hopefully enough to add up to keep from paying in.
I don't think ANYONE should receive ANY deductions for having children. It is a choice people make to have them, they shouldn't receive tax breaks because of it. If you can't afford them then don't have them. There are a lot of other tax breaks people and businesses get that should just get removed from the tax laws too IMO. |

I don't mind tax breaks for having kids.... unless they give you back MORE than you paid in because of the kids. |

GoinJettin.
You are spot on! I think part of my frustration has been where we live if you don't have at least 3 -5 kids you get grilled on "what is wrong with you or wow, why not"?
It's a CREDIT meaning the government gives people money for having kids yet we have decided NOT to yet we are punished and have to pay more in?
Sorry to any this offends and I'm not saying people SHOULDN'T have kids only that our government shouldn't give you more money just because you do. |

Location: LaBelle, Florida | If hubby an I did not have a kid, we would be paying IN after both of us have scrimped and saved all year, claimed no deductions.
As it is, we are only getting about 150 back.
He actually made LESS this year than last (we got a nice check last year).

Location: Adopt a homeless pet - www.petfinder.com! | The IRS website has a calculator you can use to make sure you're withholding enough out of each check, and if you need to withhold additional (we do). I've used this calculator every year for the past four years and we only owed/or had refunded $100-$200 when we filed our taxes. I highly recommend this to avoid tax filing surprises.

| The samething happens to my husband every year, he claims zero dependants and STILL had to pay. I've never had to pay until we got together. Both claimed zero dependants and told them to take out as much as they could and still payed. I now keep everything I can and had it over to the accountant and tell her to find and deduct what she can. |
