Location: Idaho | Ok just going to type out a timeline to be fast. Any ideas welcomed!
15 year old Paint mare. Bought about a month ago. Fed alfalfa hay

Laying down getting up laying down again. Stretching out looking at belly. Still eating a little hay.
Gave her 5 cc of banamine and Ulcergard
Walked her for 1 hour.
Started feeling better, but not 100%
9:30 pm
Down, but got up with a tug of the halter rope. Tried to lay back down once while being hand walked.
Taken to the Vet's at 10:00 pm
10 cc Banamine and drenched with oil.
Manure somewhat dry and hard.
Gut sounds and no reflux in the tube.
11:30 pm load up and take her home.
She is feeling good at this point.
2 am found laying flat out.
walked for 45 mins
Vet wants to wait until morning to give oil time to work.
5:30 am Up, but looking off still.
9:30 am taken back to the vets for fluid, banamine, ulcergard (full does)
2:30 pm taken home again, eating well, drinking, wants to run around. Manure looks much better.
3:45pm Laying down again, Stretching out looking at belly. Still walking her.
This is a friends horse and I'm just not sure we are dealing with just colic at this point. She is not worse or violent at this point. Not sure what else to do. I've had a colic horses over the years and they are fine with out have to keep treating them over and over or they have twisted and had to be put down with in hours.

Location: Florida.. | Id be concerned .. if she is trying to lay down when walking.. they usually can Lay down .. and rest quietly but if they are trying to lay down while on a lead id be concerned..I normally are Ok with them laying down as long as they are quiet and not rolling.. it could be impaction or ovary pain..
BUT it could be a partial Impaction and needs more IV fluids as well...
Id be taking her in to a hospital to do more then oil and to keep her for constant IV fluids.. til she is better.. her belly hurts for a reason..
Please dont hay her or feed her.. until this resolves.with that said.. my one mare would get really painful and park out when in season .. but banamine would help her thru it..

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Sounds alot like my gelding a few years ago, he was up and down all day and the next, took him to a vet hospital and found that he had a displaced colon, had to have surgery to place his colon back. Been fine ever since. And I agree dont feed anymore untill the vet can see the horse again, just make sure she has water. |

Location: Texas | what did the vet FEEL when he rectally palpated?? This sounds like something my horse did and the local vet didn't palpate him. had he done that I would have known right off the bat he had an impaction. When he wasn't better the next day I took him to the equine hosp- they palpated and ultra sounded him and saw what was going on.
I would get the horse to a hospital and have them evaluate what is going on… if he's impacted oil may or may not be of help. I'd be giving buscopan too. |

| Don't feed her until she is drinking well and her poops are normal, then give her a handful of alfalfa hay 6 times daily then gradually increase the amount till she is back onto full feed.
This is the post colic care my vet gives. |

Location: oklahoma | Could be a gas colic, I wouldn't feed her, no hay or grain. Have her ovaries been checked? Idk much of anything about mares but she sounds like she's in some pain somehow. Sorry I'm of no help, just kind of sounded like my mare I did have years ago. |

Location: Idaho | OK update for tonight as I'm headed home now. She is still up and much brighter then she has been. Drinking very well and seems to be resting now. Gave her another 10cc and they will keep checking on her thought out the night. Thanks everyone!! |

| my vet stresses getting them hydrated any way you can. drench feed, alphalfa cubes, bran mash,, beet pulp, drown in water. they will eat and they will hydrate them. you will see good results if they are not twisted. don't give banamine more than once or else you will have compounded your problem and elevated it to a damaged liver or kidnew . good luck

Location: Sunny So Cal | THE Colic Rescue. I have used this product multiple times and have always had them come out of it. I had a mare that would gas colic almost every Sunday for awhile. This product has always worked in 30 minutes for me. Never had to give more than 2 servings. It let's you know if it is something more serious beside gas or mild impaction. Also THE Electrolytes works great at rehydrating. Made with thickened water so it gets into their body faster. Their mouth can absorb it. When administering, don't try to push it in all at once because it will fall out because it is made with water. I hope your horse gets better |
