Location: So. California | Seems he would have known if they were filed, as he owed taxes and had to pay. Did they cash his check? You can always call the IRS and see if they were filed. If they weren't, gathering up all the paperwork and file them now. |

| The good news here is that businesses and the IRS keep info on file for along time. You need to contact the IRS and see if the taxes were filed. A local tax office or an HR Block could help you do this if needed.
If they weren't filed and he doesn't have his paperwork, you can apply to have the paperwork re-sent. 1099s and such. Tax office can help with that as well. Then you just need to file the late taxes.
My hubby was 19 or 20 and didn't file his taxes for 3 or 4 years. So we had to go and file the back taxes. The worst part was that he had Small refunds coming for those 3 or 4 years, but he couldn't receive them because they only hold your refunds for so long before the Govt uses them for themselves. So this isn't a Major Catastrophe, just a pain in the rear!!
BTW, you'll also have to pay the tax preparer for each tax year you file. We had to pay 50-60 bucks for each year he lapsed. Dang silly boys! |

I've looked on the irs website to see if I can file from there...I was told I could but I can't find it. Luckily his taxes from that year are simple but dang...this is so frustrating. Not as frustrating about her lying about it. It's a long story but she had complete control over his bank account so he has no idea what money came in and out of it so he just went with what she said and it was obviously a lie. It's a shame when you can't even trust your own mom. |

Location: Where I am happiest | Wellllllllllllll.......I'll probably be the bad guy here but reality is, if he is an adult he should be adult enough to take care of his own business! He shouldnt even be asking his mom to take care of his bank account or file taxes for him. |

Mine was a Momma's boy to a T. While HE should have been adult enough to do it....he didn't! She didn't run his bank account though!!!
That one's sort of odd. Was she skimming off the top of him too? |

She is very manipulative and knows he will do anything to help anyone so she took him for all he had once he got a good job. She wasn't able to open a bank account after her husband left her so he let her take control of his since he didn't use it much anyways and it went bad. I didn't come on here for advice about that, I asked about the taxes. We both understand what should have been done differently but he can't change the past so now we are just trying to fix everything she has messed up. |

She is a drug addict that doesn't want help, who continues to think she has done nothing wrong. He is trying to put her and all of this mess behind him. |

She has no access to anything anymore. He is so done with her. For years he was blinded by her smothering him with "love" while she was taking his money, driving his new car, not having to pay utilities and only some rent. He genuinely thought she was a good person but he finally figured it out after she put him in a huge hole |

I'm sorry but that is MY opinion also....If he can't or hasn't taken care of his own finances before....I would be VERY leery buying anything WITH him....he doesn't sound very mature! AND you are not married......not a good combination (legally)

Good for him! It's hard to tear yourself away sometimes.

Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | I am fully aware of what I'm getting into. He has had his own bank account for a few years(separate from the one his mom had). He has no problem taking care of money. She does taxes for people(don't know what it's called) so he lets her take care of it. She owed him money so she said she was going to send in a check to pay what he owed for his taxes. At this point last year he thought he could trust her enough to do that correctly. Obviously we were wrong.
I was asking for help on what to do to get his 2012 taxes done. I do mine on turbo tax and his were done on there as well this year and it doesn't give the option to do 2012. I do not need advice about moving in with him or finances. I understand and appreciate your concern but we have put a lot of thought and work into this and this is what we want to do. We have been together for almost 6 years so it's not like I just met him and he has been living with me off and on the whole time. We are talking about getting married as well. |

She still had control over that one and his taxes would have been sent to that account since she did his taxes and would have been paid out of it as well since her money was in it as well.

Location: Where I am happiest | I see. Well, you can call the IRS and they will tell you what years he has not filed for and will lead him by the hand. He should probably check about his state taxes as well. The mortgage company isnt after to see if he filled taxes, they want iron clad income and from who and what other expences. All of which would be on his tax forms. |
