| For those of you who own or have owned Australian Cattle Dog's I have a couple questions..
Last weekend, I got an ACD mix puppy, 7 weeks old. Currently shes white with light tan going down her back, down her tail, a couple spots on her legs, on her ears, over the eyes, etc.
It's not really dark but I feel like she's already gotten a little darker over the past few days. I've read online that ACD's are born white and they change in color over time, is that true ?
I'm just curious if she will darken up and get more of the ACD coloring or if she will always be mostly white?
Her dad was a blue heeler(ACD) and her mom was a black lab. There were 5 other puppies and they all had more ACD coloring.
I've attached a couple pictures.. you probably cant see much of the tan coloring though.

| The pictures in the first post were from the day after we got her (Last Sunday). Here is a picture of her sleeping with my border collie mix last night. You can see more of the tan on her head in this picture.

It's tan on her head with a white stripe going down the back of her head. |

| I bet she stays. My three were born light but had obvious dark spots, where their coats turned out to be solid colored. They had their heeler "freckles" by the time we took them home at 6-8 weeks. |

| The law of colors says she should already be darker than she is, but I have seen black labs come out of yellows before. I also think dogs can have a litter with more than 1 father if there are more donors running with the female. |

Hmm okay, thanks for the answer! I heard mix things but when I googled ACD puppies (7 weeks) most them were already pretty dark.
She has blue eyes right now, and from my understanding, they will change to brown eventually, right?
I'd love if she keeped them though :) |

It's crazy thats she so light in color considering the parents were so dark! The parents were both on site and were indoor dogs, so I'm not sure if there would be any chance of a different father.
Her ears do stand up occasionaly so I'm curious to see what she'll look like in a few months!

| I know she definetly doesn't have the coloring of a cattle dog, and her face is more of a shepherd face(longer).
If I didn't see the parents on-site with my own two eyes, I definetly wouldnt guess cattle dog. |

| My guess from the looks of your pup is that it will look more like a lab but have the Heeler white spot on the top of it's head. I would also guess there is some yellow lab in daddy's lineage which is where your pup's color likely come from "Maybe" you might end up with a little speckling.
Enjoy your baby!!!! |

Location: Near San Antonio, TX | I had a aussie/border collie. She was a lot lighter at birth, and like someone else said, she got more "freckles" of gray with age. I will see if I can find pics of her younger years...
The first two pics are when she was younger, 3-5 years old or so. The last one was from last year when she was 10. It is hard to see in her hair color, but her skin was mostly pink when she was young, and gray freckles popped up with time. She was one of the best dogs ever. We recently lost her, so I am getting teary eyed just looking at her pics...

Yes, mine all had light blue eyes at first but they gradually turned brown. The oldest has almost golden eyes, which the breeder said none of the others in the first liter had. The other two, one is more of a "blue heeler" colored, so he had more black in him and his eyes are darker brown than his brother, who is more of a "red heeler" colored. |

| Just thought I'd update with some newer pictures. We've owned her for a little over 3 weeks now. She's gotten a little bit darker on her head , and shes gotten a whole lot taller!
I'm still curious to see how shes going to look in a couple more months!

| She's a cutie!
Just so you know, if she was going to color more it would definitely be showing by now. Looks like you have a "golden".
Love the crap out of her! |

Location: N Texas | She's really cute! At this point, she MAY get slightly darker, but she's not going to have heeler markings or spots. She would have had those long before now. Looks like the mom has some yellow lab in her lineage somewhere. |
