Rock hard hamstrings

I have a 7 year old gelding who has severely tight hamstrings. They are rock hard to the touch. I have him chiropracted regularly and just recently had a massage therapist come work on him. She loosened him up quite a bit after about 30 min of massage focusing on the hamstring area.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any info on reasons, causes or experiences for such tight hamstrings.

I am an equine bodyworker and I have noticed that the majority of horses who sprint have tight hamstrings- barrel horses, race horses, rope horses- some are worse than others, but a sprinter is going to have tight hamstrings- they just do. I'd say if you don't want to learn how to massage or chiro your own horse you might look into purchasing and Equi-Stim Leg Saver or Best-Vet which are portable microcurrent units. Even human athletes maintain themselves with microcurrent. A Qi machine would work wonders too- good luck!

I've noticed on a couple of mine that when their hamstrings are really tight, after you inject hocks and stifles, hamstrings aren't tight anymore---

Google PSSM. This horse may have the milder form of it and a simple change in diet may make a world of difference. My mare's whole body was rock hard and anyone who worked on her always commented how fit she was....only she wasn't fit at all.
